Like the mantra that one does not eat food from restaurants with pictures outside of the plates of food, it is rarely a good idea to stay in a hotel with huge writing advertising it on the roof. I chose the hotel on a popular booking site because we were visiting Toro to buy wine. It was a great deal cheaper than the lovely hotel we had stayed in before, but not worth the money. The room was spotlessly clean. The bed had no duvet or blanket on it only a thin tired cover, it was also hard with very hard pillows. The floors everywhere upstairs were cheap click boards that slipped as you walked on them. The lift clunked and clicked and was very slow. The receptionist spoke only very basic English and was rather scruffy. The decor in the hotel, was just out of a really bad horror movie - awful tasteless heavy furniture so clunky and impractical. Gothic columns everywhere and an occasional glimpse of the past in beautiful doors and stone work. The Spa was completely over the top in some senses but the way down to it and the changing rooms were so complicated and with so many notices it was impossible not to get lost. The lady running the spa was however, despite her lack of any English, very kind and helpful. All I can say is that if one of the previous reviewers said it was the best spa she had ever been to, then she can't have been to many. The pool was lovely and the warm water and the cold water dip very good. The sauna was dreary and not very hot. The decoration was very over the top. However, the food was really good. We had two evening meals and two breakfasts both of which were excellent. The bar man poured a very good gin and tonic. It is worth noting that in the entrance area that belongs to the outside of the hotel, are two bird cages with lovely birds of prey in appalling filthy conditions, left on perches with ties round their legs and no ability to fly at all, just go down to the ground on a pole which had their perch on. I asked the receptionist who they belonged to and he said it was not the hotel and he had never seen anyone feeding them. The hotel needs to realise how bad this is for their image and get the birds removed to a kinder environment. I would not recommend the hotel for this...
Read moreTerrible! First things first: I believe incidents can occur in any place. It's the way complaints are handled that distinguishes a hotel.|We took this hotel as a stop-over as we had a flight from Madrid while we were staying in the north of Spain. Big mistake! Room was extremly hot and we slept really bad because of a dripping noise in the ceiling. The next morning after waking up several times because of the noise (that we thought was some heater) we find a pool of water in our corridor as now the water was coming out of the ceiling. When notifying the reception on early check-out while in a rush to the airport the lady does NOT apologize but starts blaiming ME for not calling the reception in the middle of the night to let them know I got an annoying unidentified noise because then they could have changed rooms or something. So I try to sleep through a ticking noise as of 3 am... at about 5am I give up and at 6am I find the water and somehow this is my fault and you believe getting dressed, packing my stuff and changing rooms in the middle of the night would have fixed anything? On top of that... the a la carte (because of Covid) breakfast was completely BURNED and uneatable of which I also notified the reception but again I get the reply I should have complained some other time. I am complaining now am I not? Zero apology!...
