We wanted to rent bikes so that we could cycle part of the Via Verde an old disused railway track that runs from Olvera to Puerto Serrano.|Initially we turned up at Olvera only to find that the rental office was closed even though the times on the office said 9am onwards. We waited until 10am and still no sign of life. ||Not to be beaten we took a trip to Coripe Station a few days later. We were in luck. A group of French people had rented and were picking up their bikes. We spoke to a very pleasant young man, Jose, who explained that we should book in advance but he would rent us 3 bikes now that we were here. (Reservation contact details in photos attached)|We rented 3 bikes for 30 Euro. Coripe is roughly half way between Olvera and Puerto Serrano so we chose to head in the direction of Olvera as it was a gentle uphill ride thus making the return journey easier. Approximately 6km from Coripe is the Zaframagón rock where you can view the birds of prey in their natural environment high above you and the fantastic cycle track. There are many tunnels along the route and most were well lit with motion sensitive lights. A torch may be a good back up just in case. It was 32 degrees so the tunnels were a welcome relief. (In these temperatures we cycled a total of approx 24km or 14-15 miles)|We would suggest taking plenty of water snacks and sunscreen as you are very isolated. No ‘Tesco Extras’ here. ||We drove the road from Algodonales over to Coripe which was very enjoyable and pretty.|There are toilets and a small cafe/bar at the station and it had a very relaxed and friendly feel to it.|In cooler weather cycling up as far as Olvera would make for a very...
Read moreWe recently spent a couple days at the Estancion De Coripe. It is a train station on a railway that was never built. The Via Verde De La Sierra goes right by the doorway, allowing access to all the trails by hiking or biking. The unique thing about the trail is the tunnels that were built for the railway that was never completed. Some of the tunnels are almost a mile long. The B&B's rooms are smaller but everything was clean and well taken care of. The food in the bar is a mix of local dishes as well as some standard food. The daily special was usually some fresh fish, which was delicious. The B&B is run by a young couple who were wonderful to us the entire time. You are a couple miles downhill from town but the hike and the views were worth it. Bicycles can be rented in Coripe if you want to do the trail that way. Be sure and hike to the chapel and the green oak grove. Some of the trees are hundreds...
