Hotel El Rosal – A Casa Indiana Full of Heart in Cudillero
We stayed at Hotel El Rosal from July 5–8, and it was unforgettable. Housed in a beautifully restored casa Indiana—those elegant homes built by Spaniards returning from the Americas—the building retains its historic soul while offering modern comfort and style.
The hotel has just 18 rooms—16 interior and 2 exterior—which keeps the atmosphere intimate and serene. Our first-floor room included a cozy adjoining space with a sofa bed, a spacious and beautifully appointed bathroom, stunning balcony overlooking the hotel’s nice garde and blackout exterior window blinds activated by controls—perfect for restful sleep or a midday siesta. The decor throughout is beyond cozy: light colors, high-quality furniture, and a homey feel that’s never cluttered. In summer, hydrangeas bloom everywhere, adding a soft, romantic touch.
The hotel sits near one of Cudillero’s town entrances in a quiet neighborhood, making it easy to explore the town’s charms on foot. While the doors aren’t fully soundproof (light sleepers might want earplugs, especially with the breakfast room nearby), the overall ambiance is peaceful and welcoming.
We traveled with another family who have a young kid, and they had the same wonderful experience—proof that El Rosal is just as perfect for small families as it is for couples.
Sra. Rosario is the heart of El Rosal. Each morning, she greeted us with a warm smile and served a breakfast that felt like a gift: fresh coffee, crusty bread, homemade jams and juice, plus local specialties like chorizo, cheese and tuna in jars. Outdoor seating is available (note: smoking is permitted on terraces in Spain), and the background music adds a gentle rhythm to the morning.
One of the most delightful touches? Sra. Rosario’s afternoon baking. As her cakes rise in the oven, the scent drifts through the first floor like a warm hug from a good friend. The next morning, you get to enjoy them—each bite a little piece of the hotel’s soul.
We didn’t want to leave. Hotel El Rosal is a gem—ideal for couples and small families seeking warmth, beauty, and a personal touch in a town that feels like a storybook. Absolutely 100%...
Read moreI have known Alfredo and Rosario, the owners, since 2005. In my judgement they are the best hotel owners and managers in all of Cudillero. This new hotel is very special: a sprawling palatial summer home, with large rooms and a lots of outdoor terraces, built over 100 years ago and restored by them beautifully. There is a sense of peace and quiet here away from the summer crowds - but they are close enough to Cudillero, the lighthouse at Faro Vidio spectacular beaches like Playa del Silencio to make it a perfect base for exploring western Asturias. Best WiFi connection in the township if you want to check in - but make sure you turn off that phone and just enjoy their breakfast (you’re not going to find bacon and eggs anywhere else and their croissants are worth a trip even if you’re not...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for two nights in early November and couldn't be happier I did. The service was so wonderful--we felt very welcomed as guests. The rooms were pristine, with high quality linens, towels, etc. and very comfortable. The breakfast was, by far, the very best I've had at ANY hotel. Ever. Their home-made yogurt and the crepes were out of this world (so good), and everything served is locally sourced. Nice touch with a wrap-around porch that pipes in beautiful 1940s music for a relaxed, sophisticated ambience. This hotel is within walking distance of picturesque Cudillero, and various other attractions/amenities--and only a short drive from absolutely beautiful beaches. A true...
