Abatetxe Landetxea — Hotel in Elgoibar

What a wonderful gem! I had the pleasure of staying at this truly unique off-grid farm, and it was an unforgettable experience. The setting is remote and peaceful, surrounded by breathtaking views making it the perfect relaxation spot. The farm itself is alive with animals, fresh vegetables, fruit, and nuts. Vegetarian dinner and breakfast were a real treat.

The accommodations exceeded expectations. The rooms are well appointed, thoughtfully designed. Despite being off-grid, nothing felt lacking—there were modern amenities and so many extras to enjoy. I appreciated the kitchen, game room, exercise room, sauna, and plunge pool, which added a touch of luxury to the rustic setting.

If you’re looking for a stay that combines comfort with authenticity, and relaxation with connection to nature, this is the perfect place. I can’t recommend it...

Had a great week up in the hills at Abetetxe Landetxea. Beautiful relaxing location down a 2km concrete road. Our room was one of four and located upstairs. It was very clean with large comfy bed with exposed roof timbers and areas of exposed stone walls a real rustic feel. Had breakfast each day made by Matteo and his wife - fresh local organic apple juice, free range egg omelette, variety of toasted bread, local sheep's cheese and homemade cake all just delicious. Location is good for exploring local towns for Pintoxs and vino, getting high in the mountains for hiking and just 30mins to lovely beach at Deba. 1.5hrs from Bilbao airport and San Sebastian. Our stay at Abatetxe Landetxea was a superb experience in every conceivable way... The owner, Matteo, was incredibly helpful, friendly and welcoming. The accommodation is arranged within a stone building that dates back several hundred years but which has been beautifully renovated to an exceptionally high standard by Matteo himself. There are a variety of animals on site including a couple of delightful donkeys, a cat and the two most quiet and well-behaved dogs we've ever seen! The environment is amazingly tranquil, the accommodation is off-grid yet fully-functional and we're grateful to Matteo for having facilitated this experience for us.
