Metsola Apartamentos Rurales en Isaba — Hotel in Isaba/Izaba

Our holiday didn't start well, we were held up at Manchester Airport and missed our flight however we managed to get much later flight. I contacted Julian the owner of Metsola Appartments who had arranged to pick us up at Bilbao Airport at 1030am, our new arrival time would now be 1045pm as the transfer time between the Airport and the Metsola Appartments in the village of Isaba is approximately 3hrs Julian was already on his way. ||Julian said this was no problem and picked us up at 1045pm WHAT A SERVICE! ||The Metsola Appartments are some of the best we've stayed at, the accommodation was well laid out and had all the facilities one needed plus more, the beds were very comfortable and the under floor heating was a bonus on cool nights. Meals were arranged by Julian at a local restaurant and these were superb. Nothing seemed to be to much trouble for our host Julian.||As part of our holiday Julian the owner of Metsols Appartments had arranged bird guided days out with himself and Eloisa Matheu a well known professional Spanish Sound Recordist these proved to be some of the best birding days we've ever had,we all learned a great deal. When I look at all the reports for Julen and his Metsola apartments it seems like he just doesn't need mine.However I just can't let my 13 member birding trip go by without some sort of mention.||When I met him at the Birdfair last year I somehow knew he was genuine so I booked us all in at his apps in the quaint little village of Isaba. This location his accommodation and his absolute commitment to making sure we had the best birding possible is without a doubt the best 7 day's I've had for many years . ||He also has a british sense of humour that all my members exploited to the full over the contact radios in both vehicles. Black Bellied Sandgrouse is still a mystery to one of my members despite Julen's many hours searching the tops of the Pines for it !! That's how good he is !!!!!||Joking aside I just don't know how I can follow this, the little local restaurant with the two sisters who run it, our driver, a very attractive countryside ranger who just didn't quite know what to make of us, and finally the superb birds. ||If your'e thinking of going just let him do everything and I can assure you he won't||let you down. We came here for birdwatching but the location is also very popular with cyclists and walkers. It is in central Isaba which is a small picturesque village with real spanish atmosphere. The apartment had a large sittling room with kitchen combined, plenty of room to spread out. There were two bedrooms and modern bathroom which has a great shower, very important after a long day out. It was cleaned every day and I had brought an assortment of Green Tea Bags, different flavours which I found had been put in order on my return the first day. Thats attention to detail!!||Julen was our guide on this trip and we saw 90 birds in 6 days, of which 39 were new to us. Special memories would be the Wallcreepers, Crossbill, Blue Rock Thrush, various raptors and spotted flycatcher.||Julen is a great guide and if he is unavailable, he would give maps and clues as to where you will find the many variety of birds around.
