Hotel Porta Fira is definitely one of the best spots to stay in the area and boasts truly unique architecture, which transforms each room into a “slice” of a rough circle looping around the central elevator shafts.
It’s like a huge piece of red steel coral soaring 25 stories over what I’m going to call an industrial/commercial district of Barcelona. It’s around 10-15 mins taxi ride toward the bustling heart of the city and major landmarks.
And for the price, it’s actually quite an accommodation. You’ll step into a grand lobby and it’s not difficult to get acquainted — service is fine here but we didn’t have any special requests to really test them.
To the left upon entry is the restaurant “Spiral”, which has plenty of seating and serves a delightful breakfast buffet that’s a bargain for how much food is on offer. I’ve included some pics of that as well.
The elevators are a bit small but they’re really fast, and it’s super convenient to get to any room because as I said every room is just a few steps away from the center of the “tower” in the circular slices. Smaller rooms take up one “narrow slice” and suites take up 2 or more “slices”. If you are a fan of unique architecture then you’ll probably really have some fun here just appreciating the lack of 90 degree angles all around. It must have been an interesting structure to build!
Inside the rooms, everything was clean and functional - but I’ll make minor notes here only because we are hot sleepers and the “sustainable” air conditioning settings may leave you quite warm. We found it tricky to get much below 20-24C (around 70-75F), and sleeping in the 60s or around 18C is really much more comfortable unless you are used to more European weather.
When we arrived these two delectable chocolate sphere treats awaited us in the room, so that was also a nice touch!
And to be clear: we love the sustainable materials, efforts, and tech settings - it’s just worth noting about the temperature so you can be as comfy as possible.
The gym is small but functional and never very crowded. (Floor 17)
Looks like a solid spot to stay for nearby conferences and events, for example. Highly...

Read moreStaying at Hotel Porta Fira was an amazing experience, primarily due to its stunning architecture. The design is not only appealing to guests but is also appreciated by architecture enthusiasts. Another highlight was the management and staff; they were incredibly friendly and efficient. The booking, payment, and check-in/check-out processes were smooth, and any inquiries I had were answered promptly. Before I arrived, I had some concerns about the hotel's distance from the city center. However, I quickly discovered that the neighborhood is one of the best in Barcelona, filled with beautiful buildings and excellent public transport links. The bus and metro stations are conveniently located right next to the hotel, making it easy to reach all parts of the city. One of the most interesting aspects was the view from the top floors, which offered breathtaking panoramas of Barcelona, especially the Olympic Stadium and Tower. There is also a large shopping center nearby, one of the biggest in Barcelona. Although we were not there for shopping, it’s a great opportunity for those who wish to explore. The breakfast was good, offering a varied selection that was adequate to start the day. While it may not have been extraordinary, it provided everything necessary to fuel us for our adventures. For my future stays in Barcelona, Hotel Porta Fira will definitely be one of my top choices. Thank you for a...
