So I am always fully honest in my reviews. I mention the things I like and that which I don’t and hope the hotel will take the feedback and do something about it. I stayed here for 6 nights with my child of 9 and mother in a premium room on the 20th floor. Room 2005. The airconditioning was very good. The room was white and beautiful. It was cleaned everyday. However the hallway was not. Roomservice trays with leftover food left for over 24hrs. Which is not acceptable .We liked the room. However the shower is open without a door. So if visiting with your mom and don’t want to be seen naked I had to wait until she left the room or just stayed on her side. Because the shower is see through with no curtains on the side. This building has 27 floors. On the 27th there is an open pool, seats and bar. The swimming pool is small but nice. The bar has limited mocktail options. But delicious margarita mocktail. No parasols on the bed but there is a less comfortable part in the shade. You need to be lucky when going to the pool, depending on the people there. You are allowed to smoke and we saw on several occassions that guests were also smoking weed sometimes even in the pool. The chairs are close to each other so my child was inhaling smoke and none of the staff said anything while they did see them smoking. Also some guests think it’s their kingdom ordering champagne, pouring it in each others mouth while in the pool or emptying their champagne or wine into the pool where children are also swimming. Showing sexual adult behavior and swearing in front of kids. Again I was surprised to see none of staff said anything. There is also an indoor pool and gym on the 26th floor which is a bit dirty. Young people come there to make out because it’s quiet and empty. Another thing about the building you should know. In the hallway there are no walls on 2 sides. Basically it’s an open area and no air conditioning. As soon as you leave your room 35 degrees hits you in the face. Only the lobby and restaurant have closed walls. Speaking of the restaurant. Breakfast is 25 euros per day per person!!! Which is insane expensive. I took a look at the buffet, it was not worth the money. Just around the corner of the hotel there is a little breakfast lunch room called In Time Kebo. We had decent breakfast for just 10 euros for us three. Another thing to consider is the hotel is stationed far from the city. You either take the metro which is nearby or a taxi. Waiting time for taxi at the hotel is long. Could be 45 minutes sometimes. They call a taxi for you on request but there is no line or someone keeping tabs on which guest has been waiting the longest. First to jump into the cab gets it. So stand outside in the hot weather to keep your spot. None of the staff keeps track of that. The one with the biggest mouth gets the cab. There is a doorman who stands outside mostly in the shadow and does not speak English and does not keep track. Not sure what his added value is… there is a good shopping mall nearby Gran Via 2 and has some good restaurants and a supermarket. We usually got a taxi to drive us downtown which is about 15 euro per ride. A metro ticket is 3 euro per person but in order to get downtown you need two metros. Which would cost us three more not to mention the walk to the metrostation in the heat. So we took a cab often. The hotel should consider a shuttle bus for extra service or for a small payment extra. We did not eat at the restaurant Palmer because I felt everything was too posh and expensive. Internet was decent. The tv however was not. The channels were spanish and the Screen mirroring from the phone did not work. Actually the remote had a hard time functioning too. I called someone, he came and twisted the batteries but did not exchange it for new ones. Got it working temporarily. I had my laptop and hdmi cable so we were able to watch something on Netflix...

To Whom It May Concern,
My recent stay at the Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel was not only disappointing, it was offensive on multiple levels. I experienced a complete breakdown in hospitality, professionalism, and basic human respect. What should have been a comfortable and welcoming visit quickly turned into one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.
Before arriving, I was promised early check-in. I arrived at 6:00 AM, exhausted but hopeful, expecting the room that had been arranged. Instead, I was met with hostility by front desk employee Albero, who told me to “be quiet” and “show respect” simply because I inquired about my room. I was calm and respectful. His response was aggressive, inappropriate, and entirely unprovoked.
When I raised the issue, General Manager Mr. Coll came out, not to deescalate, apologize, or resolve the matter, but to double down. He echoed the same condescending sentiment and suggested I needed to be more respectful, all while I was the one being disrespected. Later, in an apparent attempt to excuse their failure to honor early check-in, Mr. Coll outright lied, claiming I had arrived at 3:00 AM. I arrived at 6:00 AM, and I have the documentation to prove it. That level of dishonesty is unacceptable from anyone, let alone the general manager.
Then came an electrical outage that disrupted the hotel for most of the day. Elevators were down, lights weren’t functioning, and the property felt like it was operating in crisis mode. When I inquired about the situation, I was laughed at and belittled once again by Mr. Coll, who dismissed the issue and claimed it only lasted 30 minutes. That was completely false. The entire day was impacted. At no point did anyone communicate clearly or make even the slightest effort to address guest concerns.
After all of this, I submitted a formal complaint through the proper channels. In response, I received a direct email from Mr. Coll, accusing me of attempting to “coerce” the hotel. That was not only outrageous, it was an appalling and deeply unprofessional accusation to make against a guest who was simply reporting a series of valid concerns. It speaks volumes about the toxic and defensive culture at the top of this property.
No one ever made a sincere attempt to improve my stay. Albero was rude and unfit to represent the face of the hotel. Mr. Coll was condescending, dishonest, and completely uninterested in guest satisfaction.
The only person who showed professionalism and compassion was Rebecca, a bartender on the rooftop. She was the only staff member who made me feel like a valued guest. Ironically, she did more to represent Marriott’s values than the managers who are supposed to be leading by example. Rebecca should be training the entire front desk and executive staff.
As a Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite member and frequent traveler, I am appalled at how I was treated. If this is how loyalty guests are handled, I truly fear for how regular guests are spoken to. This is not just a service failure, it is a leadership failure.
This hotel left me feeling frustrated, insulted, and genuinely unwelcome. I will not return, and I strongly urge Marriott to take a serious look at how this property is being run. Until meaningful changes are made, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel to anyone.
I’m seeking an official apology from the parties involved including and not limited to the Hotel in general and full refund for the absolute hell I was put...
Read moreI’m so sorry this couldn’t be a perfect review of a almost perfect stay in Fira Barcelona. I really wanted to give it a full 5 star rating.||First, all the goods, this hotel is fantastic from every angle. Design, architecture, colors, furniture even the elevators are truly amazing. We’ve read that people complain about the windows, the leaf design, giving it an exploding look from the inside, but we actually had another type of window which looked like a huge eye that gave us amazing views, no complaints here.||Rooms are huge and with fantastic views of Barcelona, bathroom loaded with towels , shampoo, conditioners and body wash. Huge overhead shower delivers strong (and very hot water)||Breakfast on the 14 th floor is a must, even if you go at least once since it was not included with my stay. Pretty pricey for $25 euros, But all around staff was amazing and very pleasant. Always smiling.||Breakfast buffet had everything you can ask for. Highest quality. And you can’t go wrong with the incredible views of Barcelona up here. ||A few floors up (26 floor) you have the hotel gym and pool with jacuzzi. Gym is small with 3 treadmills 2 eliptical machines and 2 bikes. You have 2 benches and a limited amount of free weights , gym is open 24 hs||The pool is also small ( for about 13 persons ) which at the end has a jacuzzi that fits 4 persons. Pool is all metal which gives it a strange feeling but I enjoyed it. The water is is super warm, but for my taste , it could be warmer. Pool and jacuzzi is open from 9am to 10 pm||Location wise is a hit or miss, because you’re just 20 minutes away from the airport , the uber cost me $25 euros on the way in , but I then took the subway on the return which I highly recommend, train just leaves you a block away from the hotel , it took me around 40 minutes to get to terminal 1. ||Now, there’s hardly anything around here, very few restaurants and a huge Mall within a 10 minute walk. There’s a IKEA across the street. So look elsewhere if you want to be closer to downtown Barcelona, I didn’t mind taking the subway daily, it was an experience for me. I’m from New York City and the subways here in Barcelona are immaculate.||And now for the bad part, and I really really don’t like to post bad reviews, everything was picture perfect till our last day , I bought in New York City a Tiffany & Co. crystal wine glass for my stepdaughter who now lives in Barcelona, Now we don’t know exactly what day this occurred, since we were here for 5 days, but in doing our packing, we then noticed it was missing. be aware that this is a HUGE wine glass and it does NOT fit in the room safe (although I will now highly recommend anyone coming to stay here to use it!) The hotel does supply the room with two smaller wine glasses but this was no comparison to a wine glass with the Tiffany & Co. Logo inscribed on the base of the glass, not hard to miss.- We then went downstairs to the reception to claim the missing wine glass in which they told us, “no one saw it”. In fact, they were more concerned that we had consumed breakfast and that it had to be charged to our Amex card , Which I knew from day one. ||Other than that bad experience, this would have a been a full 5 star review. Would I recommend it? Yes , yes I would, but just be careful of anything valuable and use the safe in the room. Make sure you have everything accounted for. Take photos of things you leave out in the room .||I do believe I would stay here in future visits to Barcelona, but I might reserve something closer to downtown Barcelona. But do come and enjoy/explore this...
