I recently walked from Santiago De Compostela to Muxia, and happened upon this incredible albergue - Monte Aro at Lago. Ordinarily, I would've stopped off in Santo Marina, having hiked 25km from Negreira, but on this occasion I decided to walk an extra 4km, over the mountain, to ensure I had less to walk the next day. What an incredible fortuitous decision that was, because at the bottom of the mountain, I arrived at this brand new albergue and was superbly delighted at the standard and quality of this facility. Comfortable, clean bunks, with crisp clean sheets, and soft, warm blankets, put this albergue in a class of its own. Personal lockers, private showers, and comfortable dining areas, were the icing on the cake of this superbly appointed facility. Incredible to believe this quality was offered for only €12. In addition, the bar / restaurant, offered an incredible choice of food and drinks, and a daily Pilgrim menu for €10. Complementing this awesome albergue, was the staff. All were friendly and helpful, particularly the lady with the glasses at the checkin. She was charming, well informed, and extremely helpful, indeed, she couldn't have done much more to my make my stay there so memorable. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, it was without a doubt the best albergue I have ever stayed at, and plan to return next year from Ireland, for an extended stay here, to explore the surrounding area. I fully urge anyone making the hike to Muxia to push on past Santa Marina and stop off and relax in this little oasis of quality and top...
Read moreIn October this year I stayed at Monte Aro with some friends completing the Camino de Santiago. First of all, this albergue is one of the best along the French way. It is clean, modern and has one of the pilgrim menus to date. What truly exceeds these aspects, however, is the level of support the owner will go to for the sake of ensuring all guests are comfortable. ||||A few hours into my stay here I was sick. Not only did the owner bring me tea and consistently check in to see if I was okay, but she offered to take me to the hospital once her work day was complete. This is what going above and beyond looks like - thank you again for looking after me. I would recommend this place to anyone, even those just...
Read moreWe just love this place! You can tell that the owners are travellers themselves and have put all their heart and experience into their own hostel! There is a great atmosphere and all the facilities are just super nice! (Each bed even has its own socket to charge your phone!) We were so happy to find out about this new place because it gave us the opportunity to make an extra stop on our way from Santiago to Fisterra. Instead of having to walk 33 long kilometers from Negreira to Olveiroa we walked 25 km from Negreira to Lago (where this hostel is situated) and will spend the night here. The stop here makes things much easier and we are getting a great rest now with nice...
