Hotel Rural Los Nogales — Hotel in Pozo Alcón

I treated my other half to a long weekend in this hotel for his 65th Birthday - It was fabulous from beginning to end: The staff were all very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The location was excellent, with great views from any room I would think, and the food was lovely; they even gave us a bottle of very posh Cava for John's birthday! We booked the half board option and there was a huge choice for buffet breakfast, plus really amazing evening meals. If you didn't fancy the Menu del Noche, then an A La Carte menu was always available. They welcome well behaved dogs (our dog loved his holiday here!) and ask for a deposit at the beginning of your stay, which is refundable when you leave - I could appreciate this as the rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished. We spent our time exploring the local mountain roads, reservoirs and picnic spots, and visited the nearby Cuevas de Agua near Tiscar, walked through the gorge of Castril on the bordwalk, drove along the Guadalquivir valley, and saw vultures and eagles, wild goats, deer, little black squirrels....it was a truly magical area. Oh, and we tried the Spa, too - definitely worth the €17 per hour, lol. We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning! Ought to also mention that this hotel is ideal for children as they have a little play area for the younger ones and a nice, large garden for them to run around in. The boardwalk through the gorge at Castril has a tunnel plus swinging suspension bridge, and the Cuevas de Agua is accessed by a little tunnel, too - kids would love them both! El chef es un absoluto desastre. En primer lugar, mi pareja y yo, que nos alojamos en pensión completa junto con el resto de nuestro grupo, pedimos un menú vegano, que fue elegido en función de las opciones que dio el hotel. De 4 comidas que hemos hecho allí, sólo 1 se ajustaba al menú, en las otras 3 mínimo uno de los dos platos lo cambiaban, y al final hemos acabado un fin de semana completo comiendo principalmente verduras cocinadas de múltiples formas, lo cual demuestra el poco conocimiento del cocinero de la variedad de platos plant-based que se pueden elaborar. No podía haber metido un arroz, una pasta, unas patatas al horno... Qué va, todo el santo día las mismas verduras, cambiando el formato y el acompañamiento o complemento. Y eso que en el menú, supuestamente, se incluía una paella de verduras y una pizza vegetal, pero nada, no los cocinó, lo más variado que hemos comido ha sido cous-cous con verduras y hamburguesa de verduras.

Encima, me parece algo básico si te dedicas a la cocina saber diferenciar qué come un vegetariano y qué un vegano, pues evidentemente ni eso sabía, en dos ocasiones nos sirvieron una salsa que llevaba miel, y nos enteramos porque nos dio por preguntar, si no nos la cuelan.

Además, sé que las personas que pidieron el menú no-vegano también han tenido quejas, comida muy aceitosa o mal hecha. Ya la guinda fue cuando en una de las cenas a los niños les sirvieron un BOCADILLO DE GOMINOLAS CON JAMÓN. GOMINOLAS. CON. JAMÓN. No había visto nada igual en mi vida, evidentemente los padres, contrariados, retiraron todas las gominolas, ¿en qué cabeza cabe meterle ese chute de azúcar a un niño y encima por la noche?

La habitación era muy amplia, pero el aire acondicionado no se apagaba, tenías que ir a recepción a pedir que lo apagaran por un fallo del aire de esa habitación que ya han sufrido varios clientes, y además las cortinas eran bastante translúcidas y no tapaban nada de sol, a las 8:00 de la mañana ya tenías la habitación más iluminada que un quirófano.

Tuvieron la genial idea de ofrecer, el sábado por la noche, una cena en el exterior con "espectáculo". El espectáculo consistía, básicamente, en doblegar a un caballo maltratado y con lesiones cervicales a la voluntad de un desecho humano que lo exhibía como si fuera un puñetero producto y no un ser sintiente, con lo cual mi pareja y yo, ante tal barbaridad, nos fuimos a comernos un bocadillo a nuestra habitación (agradecemos a las camareras que nos guardaran nuestros platos para servírnoslos cuando acabó). Para colmo, pusieron música a todo volumen en los altavoces hasta las 1:30 de la madrugada, me parece muy bien que quieran poner música pero creo que debería respetarse que hay quienes, dentro del grupo, preferimos retirarnos a dormir, el volumen era verdaderamente atronador, aunque se agradece la elección de temas antifascistas y antiautoritarios como Bella Ciao y Fiesta Pagana.

En resumidas cuentas, sin duda no repetiría la experiencia, vuelvo a casa agotada de no descansar bien, con un curioso empacho de verduras y profundamente indignada por la barbaridad que estas "personas", por decir algo, consideran un...

Let's start off with the good. Lovely architecture. Beautiful rural setting. Generally very good food. Spacious rooms, which are nicely appointed, although our mattress was rather old. A good paddle court. ||The negative points? The hotel burns stuff in its outdoor smokestack. The resulting smoke is rather acrid and makes it unpleasant at times to be on the balconies, which have a lovely view. It baffles me why the hotel would tamper with one of its best selling points (a beautiful setting in nature) by burning stuff in our outdoor smokestack.||The pool is smaller than it looks in the photos. Also, the management frowns on guests using hotel towels at the pool, where no towels are provided. Are you supposed to bring your own towels with you? ||The soap and shampoo are in tiny thin squeeze packages, about the size of Wash 'n Dri. ||||One other thing. Although the staff was efficient, they generally had perpetual frowns on their faces. It seemed like they felt that the were doing a favor...
