Short version? On the day of our departure, I was sitting by the pool looking at dates to book another stay in October before they close for the year; that’s how much I loved it.
Nestled in seemingly in the middle of nowhere, the natural wood of the entire entrance blends in perfectly that doesn’t disturb the beautiful flow of the forest.
The gate opens, inviting you into what looks like an idyllic little village. We were greeted by the helpful staff, given all the information and with a map in hand we went to find our tent, happily discovering along the way that they have a charging stations for electric vehicles.
This was the first time we had stayed in any place like this, usually booking boring Airbnb’s and regular hotels. As we unzipped the front door the compact and beautifully cohesive interior design unveiled itself. It looked exactly as nice as the official photos. We had no idea they had just recently opened this place so it was a lovely surprise to be one of the first guests who stayed there with everything still looking fresh as the first day.
Once we set our stuff down and finished exploring the interior we went outside, took a deep breath and just sat down on the porch on a beautifully sunny September afternoon. What a gem we found!
Later on we visited the swimming pools, the entire area was very well maintained and nicely split between four different pools with varying depths which is great so everyone of all ages can play around without feeling like they get in each other’s way.
Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to experience their dining area but just strolling through the entire camp was such a pleasant and relaxing experience.
If you prefer to do your own shopping and cooking, the kitchen has everything you might need to do so and Lidl is a couple of minutes drive away if that’s your kind of supermarket.
The tent had a very well sized Air Conditioner that helped us both when it got too hot or too cold but I would personally have liked to see dedicated fans as well as it is a lot more cost-efficient to run and a lot of people prefer to just have a gentle breeze.
At night time we were a bit split between Swedish and Spanish culture, the former not being used to loud activities late at night. Peace and quiet is expected at the camp after midnight and depending on your draw of luck of neighbors as well as your ability to sleep through noise, this might be my only concrete negative aspect of the entire experience. I would’ve personally have liked to have the residential areas set to quiet mode earlier to accommodate a wider range of people and cultures.
On the last evening before our departure I paid the €10 and put my power hungry car that happily chugged along the 7 kWh charging speed overnight to give me 100% battery in the morning. It’s a standard type 2 connection.
If you would twist my arm to squeeze out any negative or critical comments about the entire experience, you would have to break my arm. Maybe just before that I would confess that wooden cutting boards are not optimal in heavily exchanged habitats for hygienic reasons, and the same goes for the untreated wood paneling of the bathrooms which I’m guessing cannot be washed with soap and water.
Maybe earplugs and mosquito repellent wall plugs could be available upon request (maybe they are and I just didn’t know) along with small table fans to put in individual rooms.
All of the staff is really courteous and pleasant in all exchanges. Nothing feels forced or fabricated, all in all a very welcoming vibe that goes perfectly with that relaxed nature experience. I've stayed in everything from dodgy apartments to five star hotels and I must say this hospitality experience was by far the best one I have ever had, the sentiment is equally shared by my children and family. Read moreThis is a place to relax, recover and revitalise. Yes, you can do the tourist thing and hire a car and travel all over the country side but it's sheer joy to come back to camp. You can fetch yourself a cold beer from the fridge and sit on your veranda eating tapas until you are quite full. Then drag your chair out into the open and lean back with a glass of local sherry and star gaze until you fall asleep breathing in the scent of pine. In the morning, set out a breakfast of melon, brown bread and honey and fresh orange juice whilst you plan your day and bird watch. Any questions, Amparo is there to help with lots of local knowledge to help you make the most of the day ahead. Top tips - head for the hills, much better than the beaches with breath taking scenery and white villages scattered at every turn. Take picnics and eat in the wild. Look out for vultures and cork trees and fish markets. Taste ice cream and figs in every town. Buy yourself a fan and stay cool like the locals do. Beware of Seville and watch your belongings. If you need them, the police are very helpful and have English speaking staff on the phone. This was a fabulous week's holiday but be brave and seek out the non tourist spots. Spanish supermarkets are a fabulous experience. Be sure to cross the road from the camp site and check out the flamingos in the salt flats. And Amparo's donkeys and horse love carrots, grapes and bread. The tents have everything you need and more. Cadiz itself is an amazing city, just walk and explore for as long as you like. Then go across the road to the beach....
