We have just returned from spending 4 incredible days at the newly opened Eco Hotel LJs Ratxo. On arrival , we were greeted by one of the lovely staff, Magdalena, who took her time in showing us around the facilities and showing us some of the historic preserved features such as the beautiful olive presses in the reception area. The renovation and restoration of the property using eco systems and decor were evident in the clean lines, warm wood and natural stone finishes. It felt cosy but spacious with soft white natural throws over beautiful chairs and sofas - all carpentered from hand using wood and natural materials.
We stayed in one of the junior suites which was delightful - huge comfortable beds with three choices of pillows, a large and beautiful bathroom with a fantastic shower and large bath to soak in. Eco fabric bags containing a selection of luxurious but essential eco products for our stay were left on the bed and a very generous bottle of champagne to welcome us! We had a lovely balcony where we sat every morning overlooking the incredible waterfall, natural stone swimming pool whilst the surrounding Mountain's looked over peacefully and majestically - blissful!
The lovely, gentle spa completed our stay with sauna, steam room and large heated indoor plunge pool jacuzzi . I had an amazing treatment on New Year’s Eve with Tiffany which was the perfect way to see the old year out, ready and released for the New Year to begin. Our New Year experience was equally incredible - dish after dish of delicious food was served along with champagne and a choice of organic wines. Everything was executed beautifully and they even managed to adhere to covid rules without us even noticing. We ended up on the roof terrace eating our lucky grapes to the chimes of midnight standing in front of a gorgeous wood burner under the stars. A perfect start to 2022.
There are some beautiful walks around the property - into the woods or towards the mountains. You feel like you could be anywhere and nowhere - an authentic retreat and so relaxing. The staff were all so lovely. The manager, Eduardo, took his time to talk to all of the guests personally and his consideration and vision can be felt and seen in every last detail.
What were we most impressed with? The most incredible breakfast, freshly prepared and consisting of everything you could possibly dream of was served ALL day. Breakfast is my favourite meal and therefore this was like waking up in heaven for me….not that we needed further confirmation!!
Work in progress? The long and windy road….! Recent storms and floods have wreaked havoc on the mountain road up to the entrance to the hotel. In order to navigate this temporary rough condition of the road it is best to use a 4-wheel drive if you have access to one! It is Management’s number one priority to repair the road. It will be done!
We highly recommend a stay at this truly authentic and peaceful retreat - we will be back for sure and it is already on my top 3 locations in Mallorca to visit annually!
Thank you everybody at LJs Ratxo for such an unforgettable experience and for all your generosity, care and incredible meals (and all the gluten free options you...
Read moreI spent 5 days here by myself for a bit of peace and quiet and LOVED it.||- Fantastic, attentive staff. All speak exceptional English.||- AMAZING food (I went half board and often inclusive food isn't up to much but we're talking big portions of truly delicious food, 3 courses for dinner here).||- Well stocked bar and good wine list.|| - Such a wonderful, peaceful setting. Green and lush, birds singing. Very few vehicles. Cheeky peacocks and wild goats frolicking around. Just lovely.||- I booked an entry level room and it was huge - with separate bath and shower. ||- If you want a bit of tech/connection to the world, the TV had loads of channels in all different languages, wifi was strong everywhere on site.||- The spa is remarkably well equipped for such a small hotel - steam, sauna, rain shower, INCREDIBLE treatments (expensive but really skilled team so worth it).||- Such a lovely mix of guests chatting to each other here and there whilst enjoying their own thing. Lots of different places to sit or sunbathe so you could interact as much or as little as you wanted.||I genuinely switched off from the world and felt amazing for it.|||GENERAL ADVICE|If you want to be up and doing things all day every day, this might not be the place for you. There is a small animal reserve next door, daily yoga and lots of hiking, but it's a rest/chill place really (perfect for me - that's what I wanted!). If you had an adventurous holiday touring the island and wanted a few days at the end, that would work.||Some reviews complain about the road you travel to get there which is ridiculous. Yes, it is a mountain road so it winds back and forth - that's what mountain roads do...|If you can't cope with taking it slow and being considerate when the occasional car comes the other way, then perhaps don't book a mountain retreat? It could perhaps benefit from re-surfacing here and there, but you're on it for like 15 mins...you'll cope (I was 100% fine and I get travel sick really easily). You can get there driving yourself, but I just booked a taxi to and from since I wasn't looking to explore/leave site much anyway. Reception are only too happy to help.||Given the terrain, there are of course mosquitoes. Nowhere near as bad as I thought it might be though. Just pack your deet spray (or whatever) and accept you might get bitten a little.||IF I COULD CHANGE ONE THING|The pool isn't heated - totally understandable given the location - and it was still bearable (even in October). I know they are looking into heating it in the future though.|||I'll happily be going back next...
Read moreRUN! DO NOT BOOK. I have never written a review before, but the experience was so awful, I feel I need to warn people. While the hotel is beautiful, it is understaffed: as in 3 people working the entire property. The first day, there was no water to take a shower. The next day, we woke up sweating only to find out the entire resort lost power. That means no air conditioning in the 103F weather we had, no lights, no wifi to work, and no ability to have a meal as they could not cook without the power. As a business owner, we really needed the wifi and it was too hot to bear. There was no timeframe as to when it would be back on. By about 3 p.m., it was getting to be long without power. So, the manager on staff, Jose, was kind enough to agree to let us leave two nights early with a promise of a refund for those 2 unused nights, considering the uninhabitable conditions. In an email asked for our bank info. to wire the refund. 3 months later, we still have not received any refund. I have emailed the hotel continuously and my bank has called numerous times. They are not responding and when the bank has gotten in touch with someone, we've been given the run around. They clearly do not want to refund us. This is completely UNETHICAL, fraudulent, and, to me, amounts to theft. I am hoping the owner will see this review and do the right thing. This is not our fault, and we should not be out this amount of money. We went during high season and paid the equivalent over $600/night for this. This feels really unfair and completely overshadowed our vacation memories. The food was decent and the few staff members were nice, the property was pretty although very very remote, but I cannot in good conscious give a better review considering the circumstances. Even if this did not happen, this hotel is not a 5 star because of service. Be prepared to make your own latte at...
