We stayed two nights at this "rural gem" as part of our 3 week trip around Northern Spain. We are a family of four (two adults and two children aged 7 and 13 years) so booked a double and a twin room next to each other. We drove 5.5 hours to get here and on arrival, all agreed it was well worth the long journey. The rooms are furnished tastefully, with wooden floors, good quality bedding and attractive decoration. The ensuite bathrooms are large and well equipped. We were made to feel extremely welcome and thanks to Pelayo's good English and friendliness, were able to learn about local walks, dishes to eat, and places to visit. He could not have been more helpful and continued to be so during our two days. We appreciated the welcome note in the bedroom, including its guidance on staying in the area. There is a communal lounge for the hotel guests, which was large and comfortable but we tended to "hang out" in the bar area - connecting to the internet, playing cards, reading and eating/drinking. We had breakfast and dinner both nights -the food was locally produced, wholesome, well cooked and delicious. The kids enjoyed choosing an ice cream from the well stocked freezer. We would definitely recommend a vist to Rural La Corte and doing walks from the village or driving back to Polo de Someida for...
Read moreWhen you enter the village you are greeted with the warmest of welcomes from the village dogs, 2 of which also showed us around their town. The hotel is in the centre and also serves as the village bar and restaurant. Eating here is an absolute must, the food is exceptionally good in hearty portions, cooked by the same lady who runs the bar and manages the hotel. We stayed the night, the room was large, clean & the bed comfortable, there's also a main sitting room which has a homely feel and a lovely glazed area for a bit of quiet reading. Dogs are welcome to stay but the stairs are a bit hazardous for them, ok if you take care and help when using them. The location is stunningly beautiful, and village life just carries on around you so the odd cow might pass by while you take your...
Read moreVillar is a great village, and we can highly recommend it when staying in Somiedo Park.||However, this specific place fell short of our expectations, because of the following issues:||1. Uncomfortable bed with very poor mattress.||2. Unclean bathroom (mold, hair in the drain, no shower curtain, and most disturbingly - a filthy mop in a filthy mop backet )||3. Poor and overpriced breakfast, served in a loud bar which is the complete opposite of what you want and need in a quiet authentic village.||4. Unhelpful owners who don't speak English, and make no effort to assist visitors who don't understand Spanish. They made us feel like we were a nuisance for them.||||Bottom line - go to Villar, don't stay at La...
