We visited here in July, which is out of season due to the hot weather. The owner, Francisco, advised not to open the windows and blinds until after sundown to keep the heat out. We arranged to have dinner, and the food was wonderful. After dinner Francisco talked to us about the location, Spanish history and many other things. Tronco the dog was happy being stroked and petted. Once the sun went down Francisco pointed out the visible planets, and we viewed them through his telescope. The complete lack of light pollution combined with the excellent quality of Francisco's telescope meant that Mars and Saturn were easily identifiable, and the moon looked close enough to touch. In the morning the buffet breakfast was simple but beautifully presented. Francisco explained that for him peak season is the early spring, when the countryside looks similar to Ireland. Storks and other birds nest only feet from the house and this makes it very popular with bird watchers from around the world. In high summer the country has a scortched appearance but still has an expansive beauty...

We spent 11 days and nights at Las Canteras, birdwatching. Nearly everything was perfect. The large room and modern bathroom the extremely comfortable beds, Ten days of perfect weather. We'd be awakened by hoopoes and other rare birds (great-spotted, cuckoo, blue-winged magpie, thekla lark...) and watch a pair of storks and their nest in the garden when eating, or a huge roost of Spanish sparrows. The plains with bustards and sandgrouse are just a few minutes away from the Casa. - Dona Pilar is a loveable lady and an excellent cook: every day different delicious evening dishes; no problem for people who need gluten-free food. Her son Francisco is an endless source of information about local sights...and birds and very helpful! He has a good telescope inside the restaurant. And Chulo, the dog, is very friendly. Hemos pasado 4 días en la Casa de Francisco y Pilar en Trujillo ... ||La verdad es que cuando llegamos a Trujillo desde nuestro lugar de residencia y el GPS nos dirigía a la Casa Rural Las Canteras , el paisaje era bastante " desolador " , ya que , según nos confirmó Francisco , no llovía desde hace mucho tiempo , y todo estaba bastante seco ... La casa es un antiguo cortijo rehabilitado , las habitaciones son enormes , con vistas a los campos de alrededor . Nos instalaron en una habitación de la parte " nueva " , con una cama enorme . La habitación tenia dos niveles , la zona de noche en el piso de arriba y la de " estar " en la de abajo . Habitación muy luminosa . Baño grande . ||Es la primera vez que vamos a una Casa Rural y no podemos comparar , pero los muebles de la habitación , los básicos , sin TV ni nevera , y nada de amenites , solo un par de pastillas de jabón ( pero se lo dijimos a Francisco , y en seguida ya teníamos gel de baño )||¿ Qué puedo decir de la calidad del descanso ? Paz y Tranquilidad absoluta , ni un ruido , excepto el de los " pajaritos " si abres las ventanas . La cama muy cómoda ||Limpieza de todas las instalaciones ||La mayoría de los días solo estábamos mi mujer y yo de huéspedes , y nos trataron como si fuéramos de la familia . Francisco y Pilar son dos personas excepcionales , cercanos , y nos movimos por la casa como si fuera la nuestra .||Desayuno suficiente .Pusieron todos los días el bufett del desayuno a pesar de que solo estábamos nosotros dos ...||La situación es ideal , a menos de una hora de Caceres , Mérida , Guadalupe .. Acceso fácil a la Autovia ||Muy cerquita del parque nacional de Monfrague ||Lugar ideal para avistar " pajarracos " , yo no tengo ni idea , pero Francisco y Pilar. tuvieron la paciencia de mostrármelos , y cómo sabe Francisco , es una makina . Ahh , y además sabe un montón de astronomía , y , por lo que me contó Francisco , próximamente van ofertar esta actividad ....
