Just watching A Place in the Sun, which shows the lake, and reminded me of our few nights camping at the campsite, in July, before lockdown, so a couple of years ago. The campsite was OK for a few nights, we had our own tent so can't comment on the accommodation, apart from the chalets looked very close to one another. The food was fine, and staff very polite. We only used the pool once, as we loved swimming in the reservoir, which was so clean and refreshing. It is stoney, so beach shoes are recommended. An additional bonus is the beach cafe. No mosquitoes when we visited, but if there were, it's what to be expected near still water and greenery. The only issue we had was the noise late at night. We camped near the bbq area, which is where the children hang our at night. It drove us mad! Approaching midnight I think it's reasonable to say, I don't want to be listening to loud screaming teenagers. I did complain, and the staff said they would have a word with other visitors, it did seem to go a little quieter after that. What would I recommend? The camping area, to be an area for campers only, and not a place for children or teenagers to hang about at night. Overall, an average campsite, in a...
Read moreLiked: It is a beautiful spot with views right over La Vinuela lake and to the mountains beyond.
There is an onsite restaurant which served great tapas and many other dishes - reasonable prices for both food & drinks. There is another restaurant right next door which we didn't eat in but always seemed busy with Spanish families, which is always a great accolade.
The showers/toilets/washing up areas, etc. were always squeaky clean and cleaned more regularly than any other site we’ve stayed on. We couldn’t fault the facilities either - recycling, grey water, clean water (at your pitch), toilet emptying, washers & dryers, etc.
There is access to the lakeside from the campsite - perfect for walking yourself or the dog, cycling, etc. Electric bikes are recommended if you’re venturing out on the main roads, unless you’re fit (we’re not!).
Reception were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They also have a small selection of provisions if you run out of anything, but there are several supermarkets a short drive away.
Disliked: The Wifi was touch and go but it wasn’t a problem for us with a...
Read moreWe stayed here for 8 days in October. We had fantastic views from our pitch which was very shady but we could use the verandah opposite to bask in the sun. The pitches at the bottom of the hill are bigger, with electricity and water. Only one block of toilets and showers usable (the site was very quiet so not a problem). They were cleaned daily, plenty of hot water for showers and cubicles with hooks and shelves for clothes etc. The washing up sinks are in the same area as the chemical toilet emptying cubicle (open at the top). Not ideal. There is a gate and - very uneven - steps to access the lake. We walked there for 7 of the 8 days. So quiet and peaceful (apart from Sunday when people were hunting with guns from 8am til lunchtime!!) Stunning scenery, quiet at night, very little road noise. A few barking dogs but not all night, thankfully. There are 2 restaurants literally on the doorstep, tried only one of them - El Pantano - which was very good. Camp shop has very limited stock, daily bread which is OK. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay....
