Hotel Cortijo Santa Cruz (H-BA-00621) — Hotel in Villanueva de la Serena

Good place to stay for touring Extremadura. For me one of the most beautiful parts of central Spain with castles, lakes, wildlife, great food, friendly people etc! I stayed in October and would stay there again. It doesn’t quite meet the overall quality of the Paradors in Spain but comes close. The dinner was extremely good and the chef a clearly very special one. Cooking a steak well is a real skill and my hopes were raised when I was not asked how I wanted it cooked! The chef knows best and my word what a steak! I had the same main course both nights I stayed. I could imagine choosing to host a function at the hotel just because the chef is a super one. So the dinner was better than I have eaten at Paradors but there is no all day bar where you can order a sandwich. So you have to wait for dinner, which can be difficult for us English some times! Worth the wait though Great views of the local castle and well...

We spent one night here en route from Cadiz to Madrid. Relatively easy to find as it the only building in the area.|| Reception staff were very pleasant, to the extent of suggesting that they would print out our boarding cards in the morning as the internet corner pc did not have a printer attached,|| The cafe was quiet, in fact the hotel was quiet. The room was adequate, the ground floor unfortunately has bars on the window, security I know but it gave a certain.....prison feel.|| The cafe supplied a perfectly good evening meal and the breakfast was again, adequate, once I mastered the coffee machine. The warm food I left alone, cold food was the usual fare. We were the only people in for breakfast so it was decidedly quiet.|| Couldn't fault anything really, a good stop over,...

Es la primera vez en mi vida que llego a un hotel y tengo que marchar de ahí. Y me cobraron la noche igualmente. Os cuento la experiencia para evitaros el mal trago a vosotros. Desde luego no le recomiendo este lugar ni al peor enemigo. Le doy sólo una estrella porque no puedo poner menos.

Llego y me encuentro todo medio vacío, medio abandonado… y ya empiezo a sospechar. Voy a hacer el checkin y me dicen que me tienen que abrir ellos personalmente porque no funcionan las llaves electrónicas. No pasa nada, un problema lo tiene cualquiera. Pero me cambian a otra habitación. (Sin haber entrado en la primera). Llego y los mismos problemas. Esta vez sí consigo entrar. El aire acondicionado tiene dos posiciones: asarte o desconectado. A más de 27 grados y sin poder regularlo, y encima a una potencia descomunal. Decido darme una ducha, lo único bueno de la experiencia. La papelera de la habitación con basura de los que estuvieron antes - ole esa desinfección y limpieza. Pero lo peor es que me tumbo un rato a leer y al cabo de 5 minutos empiezan a picarme las piernas mucho. Mi asombro cuando me pongo de pie y veo que las tengo picadas y que ¡eran pulgas! Pulgas en la habitación… (actualización: después de 2 años; ahora Google me dice que no pueden publicar la reseña con las fotos de las picaduras en las piernas…). Decido buscar otro sitio donde dormir mientras doy un paseo alrededor del hotel y lo confirmo: sucio y abandonado (no os recomiendo mirar la parte de detrás). Total, que he acabado marchando y me han cobrado todo sin inmutarse. Cuando salí al parking ya casi no quedaban coches. No dudo de que en otra época esto pudo haber sido un buen sitio, pero para el estado en que está y cómo tratan a la gente, este lugar está mejor cerrado. Y dad gracias que no os denuncio.

Actualización: Manda huevos que el sitio salga ahora con que la reseña es antigua. Si el comportamiento y las instalaciones eran un desastre entonces, lo eran y eso no se puede borrar. Lo seguro es que jamás volveré a un sitio así. Lamentable. El resto de hoteles que visité durante la pandemia estaban perfectamente y no...
