Hotel Astura — Hotel in Villanueva de las Manzanas

Spent the previous 4 days in two different 4-star hotels in Burgos. Their high rating must be based on their modern architecture and fixtures. Their service was non-existent. ||||Rural Astura is hosted by the most accommodating and courteous staff I have encountered on the Camino, or anywhere else for that matter. Ana and Felix could teach the staff at 4-star hotels how to treat their guests as royalty.||||This small hotel is clean, has comfortable rooms, a courtyard for relaxing and watching their three dogs wrestle with each other. Quite entertaining. And, the silence at night is deafening... no sirens, no crotch rockets blasting through the streets, no street noise... just blissful silence.||||I’m spending a week here to rest my bum knee from walking. I cannot begin to describe how wonderful this hotel is. Ana is a pleasure, her kindness and hospitality is so wonderful. After a long day of walking she made me feel so welcome. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable and the food (breakfast and dinner) was fantastic. The garden is lovely, and the dining room is beautifully decorated. The hotel is slightly out of the way of the Camino path but Ana was generous enough to pick me up and drop me off in the morning - again, she is so wonderful and caring, I strongly recommend you stay at Hotel Astura for a peaceful break along your Camino. I was very impressed with the service, The woman who came to pick me up at Mansilla de las Mulas after a long day walking was very gracious, the paperwork took no time at all and I was soon enjoying a nice relaxing shower and a 'siesta'. Place was spotless, quiet and warm, I was not hungry enough to eat the 'menu' for dinner but they fixed me a nice snack and breakfast the next morning was great. ||There are many places to stay on the Camino and I have seen nice lodgings, with competent caring innkeepers but this one stands out for it's friendliness.
