We spent three great days at Finca Las Lucias!! Pepe, Gema and their family were wonderful, warm, welcoming hosts. They opened their farm and their way of life to us.||In the mornings we would accompany Gema to the barn - helping with the feeding, milking and herding of the animals (goats, lambs and chickens). Our children (12, 9, 7) loved their time with the animals and Gema was so patient and keen to share her knowledge and love of the animals and organic farming.||Pepe was a wonderful cook - a multi-course meal of locally sourced goat, lamb, vegetables and local wine in front of an open fire was a great experience for the whole family.||The breakfasts are a highlight - home made cheese, milk, eggs plus bread, coffee and great conversation.||The common areas are great places to relax during the day - plenty of games for the family and space to spread out. The bedrooms are simple but comfortable.||My wife also enjoyed an amazing and relaxing massage in a purpose-built massage building. She says Gema is an amazing masseuse!||This is a great experience for anyone with an interest in quality food, reconnecting with the earth and learning about...
Read moreWe loved our time with Pepe and Gema at their organic farm near the famous town of Guadalupe in the Estramadura. During our three days there, we walked out among their goats, turkeys, chickens and cows to their gardens, where we helped bring in the last of the season’s tomatoes and eggplants. We took walks through the cork oak savanna up to stunning vistas where we could look down on river valleys and across to mountain ridges. We visited Guadalupe, which is less than an hour away. But what we enjoyed most about being at Granja Las Lucias, was the company of Pepe and Gemma, who were so generous in sharing their experiences as they pursue their passion for having an organic farm where food is raised locally and sustainably. They are experts in the agriculture, culture and geology of the region, and on a personal level, are warm and delightful to be with. They made us wonderful food, including ‘migas,’ and the specialty meats that they are becoming famous for. Gema lent me her guitar to play while we were there, and Pepe introduced us to delicious local wines. They are very special people, and Granja Las Lucias is a very special and...
