Transportation : We went in our car so we did not have any issues with finding a vehicle but the road to the hotel is terrible. Anyway, we can't blame it on the hotel. The government should be responsible for it.

Location : The location of the hotel is actually pretty nicer than we expected. It is kind of isolated but it's much better as it's very peaceful and calm for a weekend getaway or for relaxation. There is a large pool and an area for seabath. There were lots of different sea species on the beach and yet it was amazing. It's quite good for a quick photo - shoot!

Staff : Our experience with the staff was very good. They were very helpful and extremely friendly as if they keep us in touch. They do not disturb us but just make sure to ask at least how we are doing.

Welcoming : We were greeted as soon as we entered to the reception area. We were not needed to carry any of our bags. We had to wait about 5 - 10 to get our room and we were offered a delicious welcome drink.

Room/Accommodation : As soon as we got to the room, it was mopped and there was water which kind of made us a bit bad-mooded as it was a pretty long journey. Anyway, we managed to turn the fan on and wipe it using a carpet. Still, there may have been certain reasons for it to be that way... The room was very spacious. It was clean and relaxing. There were problems with the shower. The toiletries were sweet - smelling and lovely. The only thing we found missing was a safety pin which we thought would be useful... The beds were very comfortable and the TV had somethings to watch. We also found the mini bar closed and we requested one of the staff member to open it for us but we quickly forgot about it... The balcony was pretty nice and clean too.

Food : For us, there were good food but a limited selection. Still we enjoyed it as it was pretty good. According to our experiences, the food was actually quite delicious.

Overall : I think that this is an amazing place to visit. I could recommend it to anyone and I would, for sure. Eventhough, it can't be entirely known as ' a 5 star hotel ', it can provide you with amazing facilities. A place like this is great to spend quality time for yourself or for your family without and distractions and the hotel being quite " isolated " is actually pretty nice as then you could focus on yourself and your family or significant other only!

Thanks a bunch for the amazing services provided. We would love to come again...

The most memorable holiday We went for a family outing of two days. Conveniently located , not too far from the Highway exit of Kasagala. Roads are good except for the very last half a km or so. But it is motorable even with a low car. Can arrive in around 3 hours from Colombo.

Service was superb throughout. Quick hasselfree check in and instructions. We were offered a complimentary early check in as well. Mr. Chanaka Ranasinghe looked after all our needs during the stay. Special thanks go out to him for responding quickly even to a whatsapp message.

Resort is calm and serene with nature taking predominance. The ocean and breaking waves are visible from every corner of the hotel.

Room is large, had all the amenities needed and had a safe. AC and TV worked well. Even in the ground floor the view of the pool and the sea beyond was superb.

Ocean is the highlight. You can spend hours just watching the waves break gazing at the infinity seated in conveniently placed clean sun loungers and chairs. The morning sunshine is an event one shouldn't miss. The time to start watching it is 5.45am local time. There are few way to descend to empty secluded small beaches from the hotel. Everything I went we had that bit of beach to ourselves. There are rock formations to climb and watch the 270 degree view of the sea. Nice places to wallow in the warm crystal clear ocean water and to go beach combing for beautiful shells. At 10am and 3pm you can see turtles coming in to graze on the seaweed. Get help from pool guard to watch them. Of the several descents to the sea we recommend the approach behind the pool shower. Descend and go right over the rocks for the best beach.

Pool was large, very clean and contains a jacuzzi corner which is turned on at your request.

Our compliments to the chef for the meals. All food items were superb. Meals were all buffet style with enough variety and action items. Saturday night was BBQ night. Only place to improve would be the salads which can use some more variety. But rest assured if you ask for something they will strive to arrange it. I saw the staff actively helping a vegan guest to choose her meals. We had a child with special needs with us and the staff went out of their way even in a fully booked busy day to arrange his special meals.

This is one of the most memorable holidays I had and would not hesitate to recommend. Keep ip...

This was a very disappointing stay. Definitely not a 5 star quality hotel, and unfortunately the worst place we stayed at in Sri Lanka. I can already see the hotel management replying to my review very defensively, as it seems from other “not so positive” reviews that they are not able to receive criticism.

I will start with the fact that the front desk stuff was trying to sell us the room for double the price you can see on Booking. It might be his right, but definitely very confusing and unpleasant arrival for us.

The hotel overall is dull and not what you would expect after seeing the pictures on Booking. The room do face the ocean, which is nice, but the surrounding territory is far from being luscious or interesting to look at. Very open, dry and bare.

The coast is a short walk down the hill, not accessible for everyone. Doesn’t look like you can swim there, a lot of rocks and strong waves. It is fine for us but might be upsetting for some people. Beautiful view from the big rock on the shore though, recommend to sit there and sometimes you can see some turtles.

The pool was good and clean. The bar was nice, staff member there was the best and friendliest in the hotel. Food was also very good, which is great since there aren’t any restaurant around you can easily access on foot. Though there are couple of cute hotels you can eat at nearby.

Now, about the rooms. First thing that strikes me is how it was unclean. When we checked in, there were two dirty glasses sitting outside on the second floor, and it took staff about 3 hours to clean them up, and they passed them by a few times. The first room we checked into was very smelly from sewage, and we had to call the front desk and change it. The second room was ok, but still, surfaces had oily handprints, floors that smudges on them, glass was not clean as well. I wouldn’t mind that from a 3 star hotel I guess. But this place claims 5 stars.

Overall impression was not great at all, although it was ok to stay for 2 nights. If you are coming to Sri Lanka for your holiday, please know that there are much better places in that beautiful country, and don’t stay locked and disappointed in this...

Nestled in the heart of paradise, Sooriya Resort and Spa in Tangalle, Sri Lanka, is nothing short of a hidden gem. The worst hotel I have even been to. The only good thing was the pool. We booked a room for 4 adults, but I think the room we got was a double room with 2 extra beds in it. One of the bed was made of two mattresses kept together. And the cooling was not working properly. We were told that we would have a buffet for all meals as the hotel is fully booked, so we booked full board for two days. But after arriving at the hotel after a long ride from Colombo, they are telling us that they had 8 rooms booked cancelled, so there will be no buffets. After explaining, they said they would give the breakfast and the dinner as a buffet, so we agreed. The hotel said we should make the full payment, so we did it. After some hours, they said that the dinner buffet was also canceled. So we had to stay for one night and leave the hotel. The dinner menu was set, but we had just two options to select from, which didn't have an option for vegetarians. Also, deserts had two options. We had to make changes, which was really stressful. There is no one in the reception when we call for issues, so we had to walk to the front lobby, but still there was no one. We had to wait around 20 minutes for someone to get there for help. Also, there is very limited staff, and they work everywhere in the hotel, not specifically in one section. The staff is not educated with the hotel policies; we asked one person about the policies, and he was not sure, so we had to get to the reception again. As someone who has been to 4 and 5 star hotels, I am shocked that this is a 4 star hotel because the service is not 4 star, the buffet is cheap, and the food selection is not 4 star at all. So I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to enjoy their holiday.
