My recent stay at Gagabees Yala in Tissamaharamaya was an absolute delight. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality that surpassed all expectations. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my stay was enjoyable and comfortable.

One of the highlights of my experience was undoubtedly the food. The culinary offerings at Gagabees Yala are nothing short of exceptional. Each meal was a culinary journey, featuring a delightful array of flavors and dishes that showcased the best of Sri Lankan cuisine. Whether it was traditional rice and curry or fresh seafood caught locally, every bite was a delight for the senses.

In addition to the outstanding food, the service at Gagabees Yala was impeccable. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and always willing to assist with any request. Whether it was arranging a safari in Yala National Park or simply providing recommendations for local attractions, their dedication to ensuring guest satisfaction was evident throughout my stay.

Furthermore, the location of Gagabees Yala is simply breathtaking. Nestled amidst lush greenery and with stunning views of the surrounding landscape, the hotel offers a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Waking up to the sounds of nature and enjoying panoramic vistas of the Sri Lankan countryside made for a truly unforgettable experience.

In conclusion, my stay at Gagabees Yala exceeded all expectations. With exceptional food, outstanding hospitality, and a location that is nothing short of magical, I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a memorable getaway in...

Staying here is not just a hotel night – it’s a full survival course in the jungle. While other places might leave you a chocolate on your pillow, here they leave you existential questions.

Before check-in, the manager kindly warned us: “some animals might be seen or heard.” I thought that meant the occasional gecko… not finding a shed snakeskin right at my door, like a jungle-themed welcome mat. Luckily, the snake itself wasn’t inside… or maybe it was just polite enough to stay hidden.

Nights felt like a mix between National Geographic and an Indiana Jones movie: insects singing, branches cracking, and—most shocking of all—listening to a couple of squirrels being possibly swallowed alive by the snake up in the palm-leaf roof. That was my lullaby: part wild, part macabre.

Still, there’s an unexpected reward: every evening a family of peacocks strolls gracefully around the cabins, adding a surreal and almost royal touch to the wilderness.

The downside? Everything must be paid in cash, which completely messes up your travel planning.

Special thanks to Gamith, Manel, Sujith, Shenan, Ramesh, and Ravinda – incredibly helpful guys who made the adventure feel a little less dangerous and a lot more human.

Delicious food from the chefs and amazing sunsets.

Perfect if you want to feel wild, vulnerable, and gloriously alive. Not so perfect if your idea of adventure is simply adding extra chili to your pizza.

Stay open minded, enjoy the experience and bring with you an...

We booked a room at Gaga Bees + the safari the next day. We arrived at 6pm on the day of check in and were informed that there was no available room for us. The reason was that another couple that day had an unfortunate accident during their safari and had left their belongings on the last available room, hence the door was locked and they asked the hotel to keep that room for a couple more nights. This in itself is very understandable, so we asked for an alternative. They offered a very mediocre replacement for slightly less than the price of the original room. We asked for a discount, either on the room or the safari to compensate, and they offered a 5USD discount. There were two issues with this:

  1. they could have messaged us on Booking from 1pm (when they realized what happened) to 6pm when we arrived. They deliberately didn’t so that we got all the way there and had no alternative.
  2. When we spoke to the owner to understand the situation, he was very dodgy about the explanation and started blaming us for wanting a discount, saying that we are not being human. This is quite frankly one of the poorest, most ridiculous interactions i have had, at which point we decided to walk away.

We cannot comment on the rooms, but just know that if something were to happen, staff/ service will most likely be unhelpful and downright disrespectful. You are better off spending your hard won...

We stayed here for 1 night and from arrival to leaving the service was brilliant! The rooms were really nice with chairs out the front and back to sit and relax. The hotel cooks all evening meals fresh and therefore requests you place your order around 1 hour prior to eating. The food was great at the hotel and portion sizes were huge. Overall a really nice stay (oh and a lovely dog stays here who really enjoys playing with the hose!)
