Gatetrees - Jaffna Hotel Resort & Sea Food Restaurant — Hotel in Sri Lanka

We stayed in the old wing as it had a large family room. However we ran into several issues. The rooms had old fashioned doors that need special care to lock. The manager assumes everyone shares his intricate knowledge of old buildings and demonstrated the process of locking the door in a condescending way. The manager allegedly has experience in running hotels in London. Bathroom doors that open by themselves catching the user in a compromising position can't be that common in London. The AC in our room worked but made such a racket that we opted to use the ceiling fan instead. The remote control had weak batteries and was only changed when the staff couldn't switch on the air conditioning themselves, something they should've checked before guests checked in. Both bathrooms in the old wing had faulty latches. The bathroom in our room had no dedicated drainage point for the bath water to drain, so the entire bathroom floor would get flooded after a wash. The manager didn't accept this flaw in design when it was first pointed out. The manager also generalises all Sri Lankans as thieves who steal bedsheets and towels. This was the reason given for not providing extra sheets. We found the rest of the staff quite pleasant and helpful, however. The food was tasty but overpriced. 1 out of 5 solely because the manager was obnoxious and arrogant. I am from Florida visited Jaffna with my son. Initially worried about a comfortable stay in a humid tropical country. Stayed there for 5 nights was a beautiful memorable experience. The resort is situated in a green lush tropical trees with a gazebo in the center. The room and shower room were very modern. There was WiFi and it was a problem but I had data plan from my cellular company and it was very cheap. Breakfast was very tasty and it was complementary and local. There was tasty seafood menu during lunch and dinner for an affordable price. The majestic old house section was beautiful and elegant and decorated with natural materials. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The manager was able to arrange a boat trip to the shallow waters and beautiful beach. On the way we were able to catch crabs from the crab traps. We also purchased large fish on the way back. The resort cook was able to prepare a spicy grilled fish and crabs which we brought. All in all it was a fabulous and one of a kind experience for me and my son. My sincere thanks to the management of this lovely resort for giving me this exotic and memorable experience. In fact I have decided to stay here with my future visits to Jaffna. I have no hesitation to recommend this facility for my friends and families.|PS: I would rate this resort a 4 star compared to US hotel system but definitely 5 stars...
