Gold Ocean House — Hotel in Sri Lanka

We travelled to hiriketiya and was looking for a simple place to stay on a budget. I can safely say that Gold ocean house fits the requirement perfectly. The rooms were fairly small but had a large bed in our room. In the second room the room was very small and also had a smaller bed. They have a small table and 3 wall chargers for phones, no chairs tho. In both of our rooms they didnt have A/C but only a fan. We thought given the heat we would not survive but it was relatively cold at night. They didnt provide any amenities except blankets and towels, when we requested for an iron they were able to provide and also morning coffee. Location is a bit dificult to get to if you have a larger car, the best bet is to travel on foot or travel with a tuk or small min car. FYR, they didnt have parking as well. But the hotel is very close to the beach and also somewhat walking distance to some restaurants on the way. If you are looking to get any groceries and other stuff then its a bit far away and you will need a tuk to travel. Apart from that its a quiet, peaceful, well maintained room, bathrooms were decent, cement floor so its clean. But the bathroom had an wall so do mind small insects could appear.

Overall the rooms were decent for the price, great place if your looking for a simple room and bathroom close to beach. Do carry cash as the they dont accept credit card or bank transfer which we...

I stayed here for a week in December 2019, after travelling around Sri Lanka. I wanted a peaceful, quite place close to the beach for surfing. Hiriketiya seemed like a great option and the hotel was recommended by a friend who already stayed here. The hosts were very nice, rooms were clean (bed sheets & towels changed after 3-4 days), breakfast was very tasty. On this point I have to say that this is the only place on my trip where I received different breakfasts from one day to another - adapted to my taste (as it was difficult for me to eat dahl in the morning). The host observed and adapted the breakfast offer. Very grateful for that. ||||The only thing that may be improved is the Wi-Fi, though I personally bought a local SIM card and did not have problems. ||||Advice: if you surf, go early to the beach (6 am) - it is very close and not so many people in the water. The family also have a surf renting shop on the beach (Hiri Surf), so they can help you with the board. ||||All in all, I strongly recommend this place....

Booked for one night, stayed two because of how good I felt there. The bedroom is large and comfortable. There was party outside but couldn’t hear a thing from inside. Nice outside bathroom. The host is a lovely lady that makes you feel so welcomed & loved. Thank you so much for your niceness. She helped me find a helmet when I needed, kept my bag for the day after the check out, asked how I was ect. Very lovely woman :) Having seats & a table in front of each bedroom on the patio is also very nice. We stayed there for an hour with friends when it was raining outside. Oh and the best to finish, this is the closest accommodation to Sunset Bar (best spot to watch the surfers at the end of the day & amazing passion fruit mojitos). 2min (not even) walk...
