First of all understand we had a lovely time here, but only because of the (overpriced) great food and the one English speaking staff member (Shashika). Also understand that when booking through hotels.com (Expedia/TripAdvisor) it was advertised as a 4 star hotel, so I have rated it as such. If it had been advertised as a 2 star hotel (which it should have been), I would have rated it better. For websites that don’t list star ratings (booking, makemytrip), you’d be forgiven thinking the hotel was semi-luxury hotel by reading the amazing list of inclusions (Hypoallergenic - Hypoallergenic WHAT? Certainly NOT the very old pillows; Soundproof rooms - how can a bathroom open to the sky be soundproof?) So here is the lowdown. Come here to enjoy the great food, the delightful setting, the large rooms and a cold beer. But I would expect a 4 star hotel to have a paved path to the rooms so you don’t have to slip and slide in the mud. I’d expect some horizontal space in the (huge) bathroom, and hot water at the sink. I’d expect the fittings (venetian blinds) to actually work. I expect even a 2 star hotel would NOT charge extra for SHEETS for your bed (this place does - read the full description - so we went without coverings and slept on the one old and thin bottom sheet provided). And I’d expect any hotel advertising "free" Sri Lankan breakfast not to charge extra for tea with breakfast.||Our venetian blinds were bent and damaged and couldn’t be easily raised (if at all). Nothing like the picture on the websites. In reality, the place, the furnishings - pretty much everything is old and decrepit, including the bedcovers and pillows. One final good point was that they did provide accommodation for our driver, and considering you’d be hard pressed to get here without a driver, this was valuable. As I said, we enjoyed our stay here, but am very annoyed that the marketing of the place is...
Read moreIndika Lake Resort is located in a calm beautiful environment close to a lake known as Kalaththawa, about 6KM away from the sacred city Anuradhapura. The hotel is about a kilometer away from the main road, situated within a village. It has three cottages, one for a family. The place is absolutely charming - situated next to the lake, the cottages and the open dining are in the middle of an open green grassy area, and blissfully quiet. Cottages were more clean and comfortable with nicely arranged beds, AC, Free Wi-Fi & satellite TV. The service is excellent. The caretaker takes very good care of you. Loved the stay, the surroundings, the service and the food. Peaceful place,...
Read moreI visited here for a 2 night stay being driven on my tour by srilankannishatours and loved it. The cottages are perfectly placed within easy access of the cultural triangle and after a couple of days sightseening here Indika Lake Resort offers a fabulous place to rest set in tranquil surroundings. The cottage itself had everything that I needed and the breakfast was good. I did eat here in the evening also and the kitchen produces some very good evening meals. My driver Nisha also mentioned that the drivers accomodation is very very good and he was well looked after by the staff here. I would most definately recommend and will visit again if return...
