Disappointing Experience – Don’t Trust the Positive Reviews

I normally don’t write reviews, but I feel compelled to warn others since I booked this hotel based on the many positive Google reviews. Compared to other hotels in Sri Lanka, where staff are usually incredibly hospitable, the service here was shocking. The staff were mostly hanging around, lounging by the pool, or watching TV in the lobby instead of assisting guests. It felt like they were simply killing time rather than working.

What bothered me the most was the food—after 20 days in Sri Lanka, this was by far the worst meal I had. I even had to return a dish for the first time because both the prawns and chicken were bad. As an excuse, they offered us some juice, only to later add it to our bill!

Speaking of the bill, checking out was another disaster. Since we had an early flight, we requested to settle the bill the night before, but they said it wasn’t possible. Instead, they assured us it would be ready at 6:30 AM. When we arrived at reception, nobody was there. At 6:45, the receptionist finally showed up and started manually calculating our bill, which took another 15 minutes. When I mentioned that I didn’t want to pay for the bad food, they simply ignored me. Since I was in a rush to the airport, I had no time to argue.

To top it all off, the AC was stuck at 16°C, constantly blasting ice-cold air, making the room unbearable. The bathroom smelled awful, and as a result, so did the entire room.

I honestly don’t understand how this hotel is rated so highly. If you’re considering staying here, I strongly recommend...

The hotel is set in a lovely green setting with a nice, reasonably sized pool (as long as the entire hotel isn’t swimming at the same time).

The staff is very friendly. The different breakfast options are a great idea (the healthy one is truly excellent) with good fresh fruit juices. The coffee is very bad (but that’s the case almost everywhere in Sri Lanka).

The restaurant (for diner) could be more welcoming (and especially have better-quality music), but the burgers are really excellent.

As almost everywhere in Sri Lanka, the cocktails are disappointing (wrong proportions and not enough alcohol, so you can’t taste it).

The rooms are spacious, with superb bedding (very comfortable) and a bathroom with a real working shower (hot water and good pressure at any time).

Some people will say it’s not necessary on holiday… but yes, having a bit of Wi-Fi to give news to family and plan your excursions is important — yet here, the Wi-Fi is very weak and unstable, and 4G doesn’t work inside the rooms. For me, that’s an issue.

Be careful with the pool tiles, which seem to have been cut carelessly (sharp edges), making it very easy to get hurt.

Still, it remains a beautiful place that I recommend.

This is a basic hotel with a large room and a seasonable-sized bathroom that is kept clean. |The hotel borders a forecast, and the hotel grounds are covered with various types of trees and plants. In the morning, various birds bird chirping give you a feeling you are in the middle of a forest. A swimming pool is located in the middle of the hotel grounds. |Rooms was kept clean with a large bed.
