We stayed here for 3 nights - one of the longer hoppers on our trip. We enjoyed the hotel and Nuwara Eliya to the fullest! First of all, this hotel's colonial atmosphere complemented by its very competent and most attentive butler Kingsley made our stay unforgettable - we really felt like English nobility from the 1st moment we arrived. Kingsley and his team greeted us with flower necklaces and a pot of steamy hot tea. ||He took all our luggage and after we settled in a bit, he showed us to our room. The room in my opinion was very clean compared to other ones we stayed in and had been cleaned every day of our stay VERY thoroughly! The towels were nice and soft - the best ones we've had on out stay. Cautiously, I smelled them aware of the high air humidity, but no moldy odors NOWHERE in the hotel, for that matter.||The wifi was the speed of lightening - unlike any other place we've stayed and the breakfast was very hearty and tasty.||Not many negatives here, but if i had to name any: We had dinner here the first evening too and thought it wasn't the best one of all - we had marinated chicken and rice and curry and they went a bit too light on the spices and too heavy on the price... Other than that, we had a little trouble getting advice from Kingsley and the team - while they understand English very well, they don't speak it so well. Hence it is hard to get "insider tips" from them. Maybe they could work on this one a bit...||But all in all, totally charmed and spoiled at Misty View Cottage - would come...
Read moreMy partner and I had a wonderful stay at Misty View Cottage. The guesthouse is outside the main town but a tuktuk ride from the centre will cost only cost you 300 rupees. From the get-go, we fell in love with the place. We were greeted with garlands and a pot of tea. We met Dhammika, the manager, and Kingsley and Kirushan, the 2 butlers working there. These two made sure our stay was very comfortable. We had a nice little garden in front of and next to our room, the wifi worked well and the bedroom and the attached bathroom were both clean. The room itself is not too big but the view of the tea plantation across it and the surrounding hills more than made up for the size. A special mention goes to the cooking team, Anwar and Nathan. They seem to be Nuwara Eliya's best kept secret (but not anymore). I've been living in Colombo for the past 3 months and have traveled to other places on the island, and I've to say, they cooked some of the best Sri Lankan meals I've ever had! My partner ordered chicken lamprais and vegetarian rotti (?), both delicious. I ordered the yummy fish pittu, which I couldn't even finish because the portion was so big so they kindly reheated it for me for dinner. The breakfasts, which were included in the room rate, were phenomenal too. We can vouch for the Sri Lankan and American breakfasts. The fact that they offered brown bread was an extra bonus for me! I highly recommend this place and would stay here again if I ever go back to...
Read moreThis was the last leg of our journey at Srilanka and we stayed for a night at Nuwara Eliya @ Misty Hills Home Stay. We received a warm welcome when we arrived at the hotel in the evening, the hotel staff had upgraded our room to a suit (but i guess the rate was pricey for one night for a room). The room had amazing views and also opened up to a green balcony (which was shared commonly with lobby). Each room also had seperate Wifi on their own, which i felt is new. The breakfast in the morning was also good and fresh. I would certainly recommend staying here in this peaceful haven with very helpful staff.||||Some gripes:||1. The road to get there is very narrow (but thats a drivers problem right!!!) ||2. Heater (Room & bathroom) wasn't much efficient.||3. Early check out, we had to checkout by 10:00am (Probably could have extended if informed...
