Clearly this place has changed dramatically since the reviews of 2011. Arrived for 1 night. The entrance was unrecognisable as a hotel, more a building site.||Greeted in reception by 5 people, who watched us closely whilst we were invited to light a candle, given garlands of flowers and a drink.||The reception was being renovated. The toilet in reception was dirty and not functioning. Just beyond reception was a stagnant pool with pond weed, maybe later to become a feature.||We were led to the room, by at least 4 people. The room was nice with an unused smell.||The bed was lavishly decorated with flowers suggesting staff with far too much time!||||At 2.30 went to empty restaurant to order from menu, 2 tuna salads a beer and a lime juice. After 20 minutes, nothing. But told no tuna. Ordered 2 green salads and reminded about drinks. After another 20 minutes, all that emerged from kitchen was sound of plates coughing and sneezing but no food or drink. After another reminder and 10 more minutes, the drinks arrived. We drank these and after a further 10 minutes still no food at which point we left restaurant and complained at reception.||Throughout this time, staff were wandering around with no purpose. At reception, it then became clear that we were the ONLY GUESTS. This was an extremely uncomfortable feeling after the service we had received as we felt like everything we did was being watched by the staff team.||||We insisted on being transferred to the sister beach resort. They agreed but then asked us to wait for a car, which was being used elsewhere. The management seemed unconcerned about the length of our wait. We eventually ordered a Tuk Tuk. Which we paid for ourselves for transfer.||||On checking out of beach resort the next day, the river resort had managed to find the efficiency to forward our drinks bill ( which was incorrect).||||Th River Resort is not fit for purpose at the moment. It maybe has the potential to be ok. This was by fare the most expensive hotel we had stayed in during our 3 weeks...
Read moreThis must be one of the best (if not the THE best) places in Beruwela. The resort is located in a very quiet place, surrounded by ample vegetation and other small hotels. To get to the hotel, we booked a private transfer, which was 50 USD/ride (that took ca. 2,5 hours from Colombo airport). The driver had a bit of a trouble of finding the hotel, so it is advisable to have either the hotel's phone number or the exact place at hand.||||The resort consists of some 10-15 bungalows. We were assigned the room on the second floor facing the yard. The room was big, with two twin beds, comfortable armchairs and tables. There is a satellite TV, but the choice of the programs was limited. Bathroom and room was cleaned daily. ||||We opted for half board option, which was a very good value for money. The breakfast is a bit weak as for the European standards, but the dinner is simply amazing. It should be noted that the cuisine, in general, is rather spicy.||||The beach is some 20-30 meters away from the hotel. There were beach towels and beach blankets available for the use. At the beach, there are some bars, however, the prices were rather high. On the second day, we discovered that eating out in the city is significantly cheaper. From the hotel, one can take tuk-tuk (300 rupees return or 20 rupees by bus). ||||Overall, this hotel is a great place for a relaxing stay. We did not have a chance to use the treatment facilities, but they did look very promising. If we come back to Sri Lanka, this will be the top...
Read moreWe recently visited and had a wonderful stay. The place was calm and peaceful, offering a relaxing atmosphere. It's in a very convenient location—right on Galle Road. The beach is just across the road, while the villa faces a lake.|The garden area is a decent size, perfect for relaxing or letting kids play. The pool is spacious, although one side is a bit deep.|The staff, especially Nishan, was excellent, reliable, easy to reach, flexible, and responsive to our inquiries. Their flexibility with timing made our stay even more enjoyable.|We ordered food from outside and didn’t use the kitchen, so I can't comment on the in-house food facilities. We had a great time with our family and would...
