Extremely Disappointing Experience !!!!!! Not Worth the Price or the Hype!!!

We recently visited this resort on an office trip, expecting a relaxing, refreshing weekend. Unfortunately, the experience was anything but pleasant, and we left extremely disappointed.

From the moment we arrived, things started going downhill. Despite arriving a bit late, there was no welcome drink or warm hospitality — not even a smile. The staff seemed inexperienced and uninterested, lacking even the most basic understanding of customer service.

Although we were promised buffet meals throughout our stay, the food was far below any acceptable standard.

Lunch felt like a cheap wedding buffet — limited items like rice, noodles, chicken, potatoes, chop suey, mushrooms, and papadam. Some dishes smelled off and seemed expired. I could only eat rice and chicken. The fruit salad was barely edible, with just watermelon, papaya, pineapple, and a few dry grapes. The soup was left untouched by most due to the already poor impression, and the bun provided was rock-hard and clearly not fresh.

Dinner was a disaster. The buffet consisted of only egg kottu, samba fried rice, and a so-called chicken gravy — which had no chicken and tasted like plain chili water with no flavor or spice blend. Many of us went to bed hungry.

To make it worse, instead of using their restaurant for dinner service, they served food in their reception hall, making us feel like we were being served out of obligation, not hospitality.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant but had minimal variety and was poorly managed. Food wasn’t replenished, and most of us had to wait and repeatedly request refills. There were children with us, and not a single meal was child-friendly. How could kids eat spicy kotthu and rice with chili gravy?

And for all this, they charged us Rs. 14,500 per person — more than what a 5-star hotel charges (some of our other teams stayed at a reputed 5-star for Rs. 14,000/pp, with a fantastic experience). This isn’t even peak season, which makes the pricing and service even more ridiculous.

As working professionals, we rarely get time to unwind. Office trips are meant to be joyful, refreshing, and memorable. But this was an absolute disappointment. You don’t play with people’s hard-earned money. If you can’t provide basic hospitality, please don’t mislead people with false promises.

This was not just a bad experience — it was a waste of our time, money, and...

A Nightmare Disguised as a Hotel, Ruined Our Trip and Left Us Regretting Ever Stepping Foot Here

From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for disappointment, but nothing could have prepared us for the absolute disaster that awaited. There was no welcome, no smile, and certainly no welcome drink just a dead-eyed staff who seemed as enthusiastic as a snail on sleeping pills.

We stayed just one night one night too many. Our meals were a horror show in three acts.
Lunch: The noodles they served were so bad, they could double as rubber bands. Inedible, tasteless, and dumped on the plate like an afterthought. Dinner: An even bigger disgrace. Imagine going to a hotel and being offered only kottu, fried rice, some weak chilli paste, and curry without a single piece of chicken, meat, or even common decency. It was like they raided someone’s leftover dinner scraps and called it a buffet. Breakfast: Don’t even get me started. There wasn’t enough food for our group, and when we complained, they served undercooked, half hearted attempts at breakfast like we were an afterthought. Many of us were left with empty plates and empty stomachs. Clearly, this hotel doesn’t understand the concept of hospitality or capacity planning. The kids in our group all under 14 literally begged to leave early. When children, who usually eat anything, won’t touch your food and ask to go home, you’ve truly hit rock bottom.

The staff? Utterly incompetent. No training, no organization, no idea how to handle even the most basic requests. It felt like a group of lost tourists were pretending to be employees. Even basic necessities like towels weren’t provided when we checked into our rooms because apparently, clean towels are a luxury here.

To summarize: The food is a disgrace. The service is non-existent. The management is clueless. And the experience will leave you emotionally and physically drained.

Now, I know what you’re thinking “This is probably the only bad review here.” We thought the same. We saw the glowing reviews and thought, "Hey, this place can’t be that bad." Well, trust me we were wrong. So very, very wrong. Please learn from our mistake.

If you value your time, your money, or your sanity do not go to this hotel. We walked in expecting a relaxing getaway and left feeling like we survived a culinary prison sentence. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy. Avoid it...

I wish I was able to say anything good but I physically can't.

We had a wedding here in the banquet hall, the organizing crew paid a hefty price for it, that did not include the food or drinks which the organizing crew had to provide.

All is good, the wedding day arrives, as we are seated they serve us some snacks, mind you there are 6 people in a table, we recieved just one platter of snacks which were just a handful for one person, the waiters were nowhere in sight and didn't even think "oh, these people have eaten all their snacks, they must be hungry, maybe I should ask them if they want more", no!!! They just act like we were not there at all, the organizing crew had provided food with excess, what they did here was extremely unreasonable as only a fraction of food they provided ended on our plates, where did the rest of the cashew go?

You would think the buffet would be better, I wish I could think or feel the same after I tried, for starters, they had very little soup that was tucked away in a corner, it finished very fast and they didn't bother to restock, many left without food. Then it came to salads, nobody really cared about them as they were a disgrace to the term "salad", it was a disaster. Then there's the rice, no staff member is there to attend the buffet, the rice ran out and because of that a long queue backed up, then it took them ages to restock even after an organizing crew member went in search for them and told them, (mind you we pay for their services, services mean having attendants at the buffet). Better yet, when a waiter did come he spilt a glass of water over an attendee who was eating, he barely even apologized and left, extremely unprofessional!

Desert was no better, very little variety and even with such little they didn't even manage to restock properly, the organizers had provided them with ice cream tubs in excess, they didn't restock after the ice cream ran out, but running out wasn't physically possible with the amount of ice cream tubs the organizers had provided!

Then since I'm a car guy, I expected good and safe parking for my prized possession, none, a steep driveway that my car grinds on and no help to park AT ALL!

It's robbery in broad daylight to the organizers and a very bad overall experience to the attendees, would never recommend for a wedding or...

Okwin Resort, located in Nawalapitiya near Kandy, Sri Lanka, is a peaceful riverside retreat surrounded by lush greenery, a flowing river, and a natural waterfall. It's an ideal getaway for nature lovers, couples, and families seeking tranquility away from the busy city. The resort offers around 20 spacious, clean rooms—including deluxe and honeymoon suites—many with private balconies, hot tubs, or Jacuzzis. Guests consistently praise the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms, along with modern amenities like air conditioning, hot water, and WiFi. The in-house restaurant serves delicious Sri Lankan and Western cuisine, with many guests complimenting the freshness and variety of the meals, especially the hearty breakfast. The staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive, often going above and beyond to make stays memorable by organizing nature walks, bonfires, and even special celebrations like birthdays or Christmas events. Facilities include an outdoor pool, banquet hall, natural bathing areas, and garden spaces, making it suitable for small weddings, family gatherings, or corporate outings. While the resort is about 1.5 hours from central Kandy—making it less ideal for city tours—it offers a perfect environment for relaxation and connecting with nature. With excellent hospitality, great food, and serene surroundings, Okwin Resort is a top choice for a peaceful escape in Sri Lanka’s hill country.

The experience I had here was quite unique and enjoyable. Most intriguing element here is the natural water sliding fall located adjoining to the hotel, with direct and easy access from the resort. This fall is a part of the Mahaweli river and it is a really beautiful, scenic and calming natural place. It feels like this fall is a part of the resort itself. You can sit by the fall and enjoy, or you can get in the water as well. The resort management supplies safety equipment too, if necessary. Also this resort has a well designed large pool. We spent hours bathing inside the river, following a swim at the pool. The food at this place were exceptionally good and delicious, with a wide range of choices available. The rooms were very clean and cosy as well. We did not need to turn the air conditioner on because it was naturally cold. Our villa was located next to the fall, and we could hear the sound of flowing water throughout the night, which I found quite relaxing. There was also a riverside cabana where our group could get together and have a private evening. Overall, this place was amazing and I had a really great time. The experience was entirely worth it. I would love to visit again.

Stars tells it all, Planed the trip bit early, It took me abt 3hrs from colombo via awissawella road, Went to kinihiragala (searched kabaragala but ended up kinihiragala but no worries can't beat that view.) Took about 2 hours and back, And then went to Galpoththa which is about 10 kms from Okwin, Came to resort, and realized that Okwin has these places packed around and in it, Have an awsome looking waterfall morelike a waterslide but looks safe, rooms do have that comfortability in it cannot blaim anything, including the bathroom clean and neatly maintained with a nice Jacuzzi, Internet connectivity is a big concern, connected wifi took ages even to load a home page, Food was delicious, pumpkin soup was out of expectations true act of a master chef, sad buffet was canceled due to Covid. Next day visited Kadiyan lena spent abt an hour and headed back home good memories.
