We stayed at Pelican view as our last destination of a long trip. This was on last October. ||Nice property and even the rooms are spacious enough. We booked the family room which had larger double beds. Room was nice, clean and had all basic amenities with AC. There were cabanas with two rooms each.||We were welcomed by the care takers with a welcome drink. There is a lady who takes care on cooking and a kind gentleman who looks after the property.||We booked the room through the owner Ms. Chandani.||||Property was bit inside from the Situlpawwa main road and we actually could not locate it at once as there wasn't any name board in the road. The gravel road towards the property was still under construction then and be careful when your vehicle has low ground clearance.||They have a separate restaurant and it was too far from our room. In the night we couldn't locate it due to darkness and it would be better if there were garden lights. There wasn't a way to contact the staff from the rooms and I had to call the owner and get the contact number of the staff through her. ||||Room had only 1 towel and no bed sheets despite there were 4 of us. At night we could not stay outside the room due to the insects gathering around the lamp.||||The care taker lady was not that friendly instead commanding. ||||What we could say is, this property is nice but need a bit of thought in...
Read morePelican View is a definite choice for me in my next trip to Kataragama. The hotel is run by a very professional couple so you can expect a very decent service. When we visited them in 2018 March, there were two workers, Gamini and Malini, who were equally trained to give a very warm service to the guests.
What I liked most is the greenery around the hotel. The entire garden is covered by big trees such as Kohomba and Tamarind. There were plenty of birds occupying the garden and we could wake up to their tune. Peacocks were the biggest attractions as they were hanging around the kitchen looking for rice. Atmosphere is full of oxygen and you can literally feel the smell of it.
The hotel is located 3km from the city centre. Roads are just fine and you can reach devale in 10 mins. We did not mind the distance because we really wanted to stay away from city.
You can also organise a safari to Yala from the hotel which will cost about 6000 for 4 people.
Gamini can cook a very appealing meal for you if you order couple of hours before. The rate is very affordable too.
We recommend an air-conditioned room as it can become hot in the evening. The rooms do not have hot water which the management should...
Read moreWe stayed in this place on 13th April. And the rooms was horrible.
It has not been cleaned for a long while and we could smell the dust and foulness as we enter. They have sprayed something to remove the smell but it was even worse. I tried opening the windows so it would go away, but I couldn't move the curtains without the built up dust falling on the bed.
The beds were also not ready to sleep, they were also dirty. Good thing we had our own sheets. Still, I woke up with a runny nose.
Worst thing, we had a COCKROACH 🪳 welcoming us to the bathroom!!! Oh and a SLUG in the room.
Food was also not worth the money at all. No seasonings. Bland.
The basic facilities that must be there was missing here. Therefore I DON'T RECOMMEND this place to anyone to stay for any...
