PJ's is the most beautiful place to stay. It's secluded and private, the only noises being the sound of nature. The large garden area surrounding the pool is amazing, and full of wildlife including monitor lizards, frogs and beautiful birds. There is an abundance of vegetation which adds to the feeling of being in your own jungle paradise. The grounds are extremely well kept. The pool is clean, warm and so inviting and the jetty area looking out over the lake is tranquil and a lovely place just to sit and relax. The bathrooms are lovely and it's a great feeling having a shower outside under a blue or dark sky. The air conditioning in the bedroom is fantastic and the bed is super comfy and surrounded by a mosquito net. Nihal, the caretaker, is a lovely man who treats you with respect. He is always there if you need him but is never intrusive. He cooked us lovely breakfasts and we stayed in a couple of nights, when he cooked us a Sri Lankan curry and then a BBQ; both were delicious. PJ also has to be mentioned as he was always quick to answer queries. We originally booked for 2019 but COVID put a stop to that. We asked him to hold on to the deposit which he did and there was no question or argument on knocking this off when we paid.
We had a hire car for the duration of our holiday and it did come in handy for the time we had at PJ's. However, if you don't have a car, Nihal can order you a tuk tuk which can take you to the centre of Hikkaduwa in about 5 minutes for a few hundred rupees (usually just over £1) This is probably an over charge for tourists, but it's so worth it and totally understandable. If you are thinking of going to Hikkaduwa then I cannot recommend PJ's highly enough. It is fantastic value for money and one of the best places we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. Thank you Nihal and PJ for providing such a relaxing place to stay at the end of our holiday. We have memories we will...

An underrated stay that truly exceeded our expectations. We contacted the owner via WhatsApp — he was very professional, friendly, and offered us a great rate.
The property is just a few minutes from the Hikkaduwa Railway Station. It’s private, secure, and well-maintained. The caretaker was incredibly helpful, kept the place spotless, and assisted us in many ways.
We stayed in two air-conditioned rooms — one with an attached bathroom and one with a common bathroom. Both were clean, tidy, and faced the garden and pool. A small bookshelf in the rooms was a thoughtful touch.
The caretaker even brought us lunch from a nearby shop.
The bathrooms were particularly impressive — open-style, surrounded by trees, giving a natural, outdoor shower feel.
There’s a small pool which was decent, though it could be a bit cleaner. The best part was a small two-person boat they let us use for free — we had a great time rowing in the Hikkaduwa Lagoon, which would have been costly elsewhere.
The common area was lovely, with a covered dining space, comfortable seating, and poolside loungers. At night, we had a BBQ with the caretaker’s help, and the kitchen was fully equipped with a fridge, stove, and utensils.
Overall, it was an unforgettable stay. Perfect for two couples or a small family. Highly recommended — and we’ll...
Read morePJ's is a treasure of a peaceful, 'minimalist' modern villa, tastefully appointed with a large (now heated!) swimming-pool on the edge of the Great Hikkaduwa Lagoon. I stayed as a guest of my good friends from Mount Lavinia, who have been here three times before... The decor is minimalist but tastefully thought-out, as are the beautiful large gardens with many established plants and trees.. The swimming pool is on the edge of the Lagoon, where blue kingfishers and monitor lizards come to drink... There is a jetty with deckchairs there, and a large canoe for going for boat-trips on the lagoon, if desired. There are hardly any mosquitoes, as the Lagoon is tidal and is a salt-water lagoon. The two bedrooms have showers open to the sky, so you'll meet some local wild-life, for sure! Charming Muthu the houseboy cooks a good breakfast (included in the fees) and can also cook lunch and dinner, if desired (at a reasonable extra cost)... He is a trained cook! It is a peaceful, delightful 'home-away-from-home', secure and private, and it is obvious the owner has great taste... Can't wait to go again. Highly...
