Rock View Hostel Ella — Hotel in Sri Lanka

Well, the view on Ella Rock from both our room and the terrace IS nice. The room is well lit and very spacious. But I'm afraid that's so far all positive I can think of, so that makes 2 of 5 points. Bed was clean, but bath not at all. When we arrived it looked as if it was only superficially rinsed with water of the "toilet shower thing", all, even the mirror, was still wet. And it seems that's the only way they clean the bath, if you look at the decades-old dirt crusts in shower (that additionally had a crack and a demolished plastic "wall") and toilet. This kind of neglecting continued at breakfast time, white toast, jam, bit of fruit, bit of egg, and also in how we've been treated by the staff, they didn't really care. So 2 nights were definitely enough. I hope there are nicer and cheaper spots in (don't know why-hyped) Ella. On the countryside I'm sure there are, but that centrally located... One good thing was the situation on top of a little hill above the main road - a bit more quiet and much better air. Still not enough to give 3 points. Btw. Everything. I booked 3 nights and extended 7 more. Amazing place with super helpful staff the manager Sajanal and the reception guy, Pasan, both very helpful, always happy vibe and ready to give information.The place is in a great location with the amazing view of Ella rock. Chilling place, where I loved to sit all day, breezy, comfortable seats outside. The rooms are large, bed with mosquito nets/ curtains private bathroom with hot water and a big window. The mattress is super comfortable, I sleep like a baby here. There are lights and plugs by the bed , a fan in the room, and big lockers. The common area inside is big too, the kitchen also has a fridge toaster, stove, water heater, free coffee , tea and drinking water . The location is perfect right by the main road, easy walk everywhere. They can help with organizing trips to places, or get a ride to your next place. You can also get breakfast here for an extra charge. Even the 9 arch bridge is at walkable distance. Definitely the best value in town, location, view, room comfort and customer...

I arrived about 4:00pm and couldn’t find any staff to greet me when I got there . I then got shown the bedroom where there were 10 beds (bunk beds) even though it said on the booking 8. The staff didn’t really know where was best to put me and did not involve me when I asked where I would be staying . The beds were clean and tidy but lack of plugs in the room. The bathroom was dark and dingy and didn’t have any toilet paper in either for a few hours so I asked for some as well as asking for a blanket as they did not supply you with one. It was close to the town centre but when we arrived home at 9pm after a long day people were loud outside and this did not help as there was a crack in the window near the bed that allowed noise to come through . There were several people in the same room coming in and out being loud. As well as two people sharing a single bed and having sexual intercourse .
