The Ocean Villa Den — Hotel in Sri Lanka

One of the worst experiences we've ever had completely misleading and unprofessional.

We visited this property as a group of 25 people expecting a pleasant day, but what we encountered was extremely disappointing and frustrating from start to finish.

First, the swimming pool was dangerously maintained, with sharp edges that caused cuts and injuries to several members of our group. This is not just neglect – it’s a serious safety hazard that should never exist at a venue open to guests.

the food portions were shockingly inadequate. For a group of 25 people, we were given just two bowls of rice and two bowls of chicken curry. There was no proper buffet or even basic individual servings. It was clear that they were trying to cut corners and serve as little as possible while charging full rates.

Finally and most disturbingly at the time of check-out, the owner, Mr. Warnakulasuriya, verbally abused us for handing over the final payment in notes of 100s, 500s, and 1000s. These are all standard legal notes in Sri Lanka, yet he accused us of being cheap and said we must have been searching for coins just to settle the bill. His behavior was rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional.

This venue is poorly managed, lacks basic hospitality standards, and treats guests with no respect. Do not be fooled by positive reviews – our experience was unacceptable in every way. I strongly advise others to avoid this...

Our visit here was nothing short of a disaster. We booked this place hoping for a peaceful and relaxing day, but it turned out to be a complete nightmare. From the moment we arrived, everything started going downhill.

First, the service was extremely slow and unorganized. Despite confirming our booking in advance, we were left waiting for an unreasonably long time. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than guests.

The facilities were in poor condition—especially the pool, which had broken tiles that posed a serious safety hazard. A few of our friends injured themselves because of the sharp, damaged edges. It's shocking that such a risk has been ignored.

And when leaving the owner closed the roller gate so that we couldn't leave till we paid, the owner responded with rudeness and hostility. We were shocked to be met with insults and aggressive language—it was completely uncalled for and ruined any chance of salvaging the day.

We left the place feeling frustrated, disrespected, and hungry, as the food service was also severely delayed and disappointing. For the amount we paid, this experience was an utter waste. Honestly, it’s not worth a single rupee.

Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere. There are far better places that actually care about their guests and value safety...

Unfortunately, my experience here was very disappointing. The service was subpar, with long wait times and poor management that clearly lacked attention to detail. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a room that had not been properly cleaned. There were noticeable coconut leaves and sand scattered around, which immediately gave a feeling of neglect.

Even more concerning was the state of the bed linen. It appeared unwashed, with wrinkles and an overall unkempt look, which is completely unacceptable for the price I paid.

For what I was charged, I expected much higher standards of cleanliness, professionalism, and service. The lack of care in maintaining the facility and the service really let this place down.

To make matters worse, the staff seemed poorly trained to cater to any guests beyond the typical budget-seeking backpacker crowd. As a local guest expecting a decent level of service and respect, I felt completely overlooked. Staff should be better trained to treat all guests with equal courtesy and professionalism, regardless of their background or nationality.

Given the overall experience, I cannot recommend this place to anyone and will certainly not...
