We were on a cycling trip around the area and spent one night at this hotel. It is family run and old, but genuine, Swedish style. The food was delicious and well presented. The wine recommendations were just right as well. There were no /toiletbathroom in the rooms but this was not really a problem for us. All in all we enjoyed our stay at this place that definitely feels like a blast from the past. It is not cheap though - The 4 of us paid around 2000kr per person for our stay. I left some pyjamas behind and called the hotel and they hadn't found them. We then popped in on our way home, 2 days later, and they still hadn't found them. When I arrived home I received a message that they had been found - I was asked to send them a stamped address envelope so they could return them. I really think this was a bit rich! After we had paid all that money and dropped in to pick up the pyjamas that they couldn't find I think it was petty of them to ask for us to pay for the postage. It is only a minor detail but one that shows a complete lack of customer service. This has left a sour taste in my mouth. (the postage cost 35kr so I am not complaining about the cost just the lack of a...
Read moreGreat food. Great views. Spectacularly quiet. A perfect base for sightseeing, hiking, kayaking, bicycling and bird watching. Owner managers are on top of the details. This a charming old world country inn on the upswing. Built in 1910, the current owner-managers have owned it for eight years and are continuously upgrading. Abutting a nature preserve that in the past was a royal hunting grounds, the hotel is located close to great historic sights and midevil towns. High season is May and October for world renowned birdwatching on nearby Lake Takern, but for non-birdwatchers, the rest of the summer season is fabulous. Views over the wheat fields and crystal clear Lake Vattern are hypnotizing and guests often sit on the porch with a glass of wine taking in the sunset over the lake. Lake Vattern is Sweden's second largest lake and a center for water sports and fishing. Last but not least, we were taken in by the quiet. Compared to the noisy Northeast USA, the absence of ambient noise of the modern world was noticeable...
Read moreIf you are a foodie you have to go to this hotel. It's a Victorian building with large but not totally modern rooms., but the food is to die for! Two couples run the restaurant and the hotel and are incredibly friendly and warm. Their staff is also lovely and the ground floor is spacious. The rooms are all of the second floor and have balconies and views of large lavender beds, beautiful fields and Lake Vattern. The bad news is that the rooms share two bathrooms upstairs and one on the main floor. If you can get by that issue, you will have a wonderful time. We never had a problem and viewed it like staying with friends at their country house. The food and views make up for the bathroom situation. We knew nothing about the area but it is gorgeous and is adjacent to a nature preserve and one the world's top birding spots. It was totally peaceful and had very little noise with most of the limited number of tourists being Swedish. We were shocked at how much we...
