This place is really cool and if you can afford it I would recommend it. The coolest rooms to stay in are definitely the 7th room (5 people) and the cabin (2 people). The dragonfly feels a bit dark and corporate Inside while the others feel homie. We stayed in the UFO and like the birds nest the room is tailored around families with young kids. The 3 single beds in the UFO are 160cm and are made for kids. The UFO has an Xbox but only a tiny monitor and some games only kids 10 and under would likely enjoy. But if you do have kids I could imagine staying in that room would make them jump for joy! An automated ladder extends from the base of the UFO to let you in and it’s a really cool touch.
The sauna is also a must if you come here and you can reserve 2 hour time slots. They also have a jacuzzi that costs a bit more.
Breakfast is included and is good. Pro tip: if you order from systembologet 2 days in advance they will deliver alcohol to tree hotel for you free of charge which will save you a 30min car ride.
Their is also a lodge with a very nice fire place close to the main building.
However, I didn’t feel well taken care of by all the staff members. Maybe it’s just northern Swedish culture though, and when I met one of the owners we had an incredible conversation. We also payed for the tour to hear the history of the place and see the rooms and It felt rushed and lackluster. If I was staying in one of the rooms I would skip the tour.
Overall I would not make this the center of a trip, but make it part of one. I would probably try and stay in the 7th room or the cabin for 1-2 nights. I was worried I would be bored just staying in the room but it’s really just so cool and awesome I did not feel that way at all. The nature is so beautiful. Also the drive here in the winter is pretty wild due to the dark and icy conditions (at least for a...
Read moreVisiting Brittas Pensionat almost feels like going to visit a relative in a small town. The over all feel of this guesthouse is extremely homely. After a night at the Treehotel (which is nearby and belongs to the same family), we stayed at one of the "apartments" right outside the main pensionat's building. I can't speak for the general rooms. But this "apartment" consisted of a bedroom, bathroom and a kitsch living room. I honestly felt like I was visiting my Grandma's place - and I mean this in a good way! :)||||The place is comfortable (the mattress softer than I would have liked - but this is standard in Sweden!), well heated, the shower works well and they provide beautifully scented bio toiletries produced in Swedish Lapland.||||Apart from the hospitality (Britta is very welcoming, and so is her husband!), the other highlight at Brittas Pensionat was the breakfast. Served as a buffet, it includes a little bit of everything. From fruits and cold items such as freshly squeezed orange juice (you can do your own on the spot), yogurts, cheeses, granolas, etc.. to cooked goodies such as eggs, bacon, pancakes.. to Swedish favorites such as flat breads, smoked salmon and kaviar in a tube. The home-made berry jams were outstanding! Freshly brewed coffee is made available all day, complimentary. And so are some really tasty dark chocolates kept by the coffee station.||||There are a couple of places to eat nearby in Harads - as far as I saw, there is at least one pizza place and also a Thai restaurant. They both close pretty early so, if you can afford it, you can have dinner at the Pensionat, where you'll enjoy something way more local and traditional than pizza or pad thai! Like dishes featuring Arctic Char (see my photo!), moose...
Read moreStayed at the Ice Hotel, Tree Hotel and Arctic Bath Hotel. 2 nights each. Great location in the trees for the Treehotel. Stayed in the 7th Room and the Biosphere. Both very well designed and innovative. Food was good but could be better. Breakfast is very basic. The staff at the restaurant (Maya and her manager) were very friendly and made the stay more memorable. ||But not recommended for the elderly especially in winter, because of the risk of falling on the foot paths and also ladders to get to the loft space. Check in was disappointing as we were not shown to our rooms and were "invited" to walk on the snowy footpaths from the reception to find our rooms in the forest (not easy if it's the first time and not nearby and with kids and elderly) and not given an orientation, though they did separately move our luggage. ||While the partners they work with for excursions are not part of the hotel, it leaves a very bad association when their partners aren't good. We had an aurora tour scheduled, but the provider did not cancel or reschedule despite knowing many hours earlier that it would be a very cloudy night with no possibility of seeing the northern lights at all. Profits over "doing the right thing"! Contrast this with another provider (Hide & See at another hotel) who unilaterally and graciously canceled another northern lights excursion because of clouds and gave us the option of a refund or rescheduling to the next night (which we did and it...
