We were here for a conference with my company, and will be returning again next year. Overall I would say the experience is OK. I have been to ElsiefFarm prior to this, but only ate at the restaurants - this was the first overnight experience.||Let's begin with the good: the lunch we were served on the first day was divine. Tender meat that fell apart and excellent taste combined with the potato mash and sweet onions. For dinner we were treated to delicious kalvkött with very tasty roasted vegetables. Dessert was cheesecake, and was also very good albeit a little small. |Breakfast the next morning was decent, other reviewers have complained about the bread not being fresh, this was not the case this morning. An adequate selection, nice bacon. Scrambled eggs tasted watery and readymade though.||Onto the rooms ... we were a large group so were split up into different parts of the hotel. In the main building, those staying there apparently had the best experience.|There are two annexes, one named "Stallet" (the stall) and the other "Herrgården" (the manor house). |I was in the stall, on the second floor. One needs to walk in the elements around puddles to get to the building. Once getting to the room, it looks at first glance to be very cozy. Full height ceiling (apparently the manor house has sloping ceilings). The first thing I was hit by was the warmth radiating off the stone floor in the entrance/bathroom - the floor heating must have been on absolute MAX, and I could find no way to adjust it. My other colleagues also said their floor heating was on full, and that the rooms were far too warm. The floor in the bathroom was almost too hot to stand on, I can only imagine the energy costs that ElsieFarm must have with this resistive heating.. There was a slight but distinctly noticeable sewerage smell from my bathroom which I didn't like. But the biggest complaint with the bathroom was the window that, for my room, was directly opposite the exterior stairs. The window has some plastic opaque film over it, but it does an almost laughable job of actually blocking the view in. Anyone can see you sitting on the toilet or in the shower. The Swedes are more relaxed about this, but I felt quite exposed in this bathroom. The shower leaked out the bottom over the floor .. ||The bed was comfortable, but I slept terribly due to the warmth in the room. Even cracking a window did not help. You hear every noise your neighbor in the adjacent room makes, and I'm sure those below hear the floors above. It is crazy to have to open a window in November, the property needs to consider installing thermostats for the floor heating.||We tried the spa last night and found it to be OK. The internal spa had a very irregular bubble system that made you feel you were getting punched in the kidneys .. but totally intermittently. The outdoor pool was nice and warm, but the water felt a little slimy (and in the harsh light of day the next day it did actually look a bit green).|The spa has potential, but needs some TLC in my opinion. ||Staff on the whole were cordial but unmemorable, the waiter at the restaurant seemed like a nice guy. Checkout was at 09.00 - we had the conference so wasn't an issue for us, but for other guests 9am feels quite early. |The conference venue (on the second floor of the main building) was fresh, modern and functional, and there was an excellent fika with coffee and candy provided throughout the day. |||ElsieFarm is going for a rustic/modern approach. It is a challenge to pull off both rustic and high class... there is some room for improvement. I really would have liked to give this experience 4 stars, but the sub-par bathroom, the spa and the other small things I mentioned knocked it down one. It will be interesting to come back to ElsieFarm next spring, and hope for a room in the main building. |At any rate, I'm looking forward to the...
Read moreSet in the Southern Swedish countryside, this inn has lots of charm. We had sunny and cold weather, and Elisefarm looked picturesque with all the fall colors surrounding it. ||||The buildings are very old and the windows drafty, but the rooms have sufficient heating. They are quite large and decorated with country motifs. We experienced an issue with our sink and were offered another room, but declined, as we liked the space and light in our existing room. Our building was the farthest away from the reception and restaurant, and so we had to walk a little to get there.||||The property is surrounded by a golf course, which looked nice, but we are not golfers, so cannot really comment on this. We recommend visiting nearby Bosjökloster. It has nice gardens and even some animals.||||Our visit fortuitously coincided with Elisefarm's annual seafood buffet dinner, which was beyond extravagant and absolutely delicious. We highly recommend this if you can get a table. We appreciate staff at Elisefarm contacting us about this option right after we had completed the booking.||||One thing that negatively affects my rating of Elisefarm is the lack of clarity around spa usage. We were told by one person that there was a 250 kr surcharge per person to use the day spa from 9 am to 2 pm. Then we were told by another person that it should be free for us to use after 2 pm - she was ALMOST 100 percent certain - as we were staying overnight and having dinner there. We had booked through hotels.com, and that seemed to confuse the staff on what the rules were. They spent a lot of time looking into it while keeping us waiting, before they told us to check again at breakfast the next morning. ||||The next day at 2 pm, we had no problems entering the spa, and it was a very nice spa. Despite near freezing temperatures, the pool-sized outdoor jacuzzi felt as if it were about 39 degrees Celsius. We were not able to bring our son to the spa, as there is a 16 year age limit. We respect this, and my husband and I took turns using the spa. ||||A public service announcement: please note when using the spa, that the locker area is not the changing area! It is a unisex area where you leave your belongings, and then get changed in the private enclosures with showers. Some men did not seem to grasp this concept... Funny for me, embarrassing for them.||||We stayed for two nights, and checked out by 10 am in the morning. (Be aware that they charge a lot extra for a late checkout.) ||||With breakfast and the spa included, I would consider the nightly price of around 700 SEK good value for money. We are considering coming back for just a...
Read moreA nice facility with some logistical downsides and uneven food and service.
The first thing I noticed upon entering is an overwhelming smell or “signature scent”. This was pleasant, but far too concentrated in public areas like the reception and upstairs fika lounge, to the point that it interfered with enjoying food and gave one colleague a headache. The fact that the windows did not open in the meeting rooms made the smell more oppressive (clearly others had tried to do the same before us as the window handle was broken).
They advertise a gym and pool, but the outdoor pool is only open during summertime and the gym is permanently closed with some vague discussion of eventual restoration.
Ok but not great to reach via public transit, the Fogdarp bus stop is a 1 km walk on a large road paralleling the noisy E 22Highway. Be sure to allow extra time to walk further and go under the highway for the return bus in the direction of Lund and Malmö.
The quality of both food and service was highly variable. About half the reception and restaurant staff was friendly and helpful while the other half were hard to find or engage. This made it difficult to raise any issues on site.
The quality of the dinner was excellent, lunch and breakfast were good not great. We found it strange that the server opened the bottle of recommended but not included wine before asking us what we would like to drink, pushed us heavily towards the recommended wine, and seemed unhappy and reluctant to bring the wine list or serve us a different wine. We were only served one bottle of tap water with dinner, which was not refilled when empty (I had to enter the kitchen to ask for a refill).
The room walls are extremely thin. My room shared a (locked) door with a colleague, and I could hear every word of their phone call home. Starting at 6am, you could hear every sound from the hallway of doors, showers, luggage etc as if they were in your room. Better insulation would be a major improvement to sleep and room quality.
The setting is pleasant with a distant view of the lake (on the other side of the freeway) but very golf focused, in trying to go for a walk we ended up walking on the golf course as we didn’t find other paths...
