Visiting Camp Alta was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience—an opportunity to disconnect from the world and immerse yourself in the raw beauty of nature. Imagine lying on a frozen lake, gazing at a sky full of stars, or venturing to Abisko, 200 km above the Arctic Circle, to witness the mesmerizing northern lights. From experiencing a snowstorm to exhilarating activities like dog sledding and snowmobiling, every moment here is unforgettable. You can even try ice fishing by drilling a hole into the frozen lake, walk for kilometers across the ice, and unwind in a traditional sauna—all made possible by the incredible team at 90 Degree North.
A special mention to Anita, an exceptional guide from the Netherlands who has made this beautiful place her home, dedicating herself to helping explorers like us truly experience the wilderness. But she is just one of many unsung heroes who make this journey extraordinary. Pranav, who founded 90 Degree North and now runs Camp Alta, along with guides like Marice and Nicola from France, Gabriel from Australia, and many more, work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure visitors have an unforgettable adventure.
This trip was an absolute must-do, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to connect with nature in its purest form. My only request to fellow travelers is to respect and keep this place clean so it remains as breathtaking for future visitors.
To the camp owners, a suggestion: A small or medium-sized restaurant offering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options would be a great addition. Many guests may not want to cook or may not know how to, and such a facility would not only enhance the experience but also serve as an additional business opportunity.
As for the facilities, they are excellent. With multiple saunas available, you can truly relax and soak in the Arctic atmosphere. I absolutely loved my time here and can’t...
Read moreWe stayed here for 1 night and sadly it did not meet up to our expectations. The cabins were standard cabins. We had one with a kitchen, though we must say, there were issues of the cleaning of the previous tenant? Or if its simply the standard of things. The plates and cutlerys had stains on them that was not washable, also their were stands of hair in the drawers, not something you'd like to find whilst attempting dinner prep. Moreover, the utensils for cooking were missing so there was a constant running back and forth between our cabin and the common kitchen area to supplement for missing items.
There were shared bathrooms and toilets, the ladies bathrooms were not clean and there were not enough of them, so queuing in the snow became a habit.
The reception were rarely staffed, and the emergency contact number were not staffed ever. We tried calling several times. The info we got varied from staff to staff, the lack of constiency was frustrating.
It is a campsite as one would expect, everything extra was for a fee. Firewood, bed lining, car ride back, etc. All for a fee. So although the site provided with a sauna for example, you still had to buy firewood to keep it going. Similarly to the bonfire for cooking, it was something you had to start yourself and provide for, no staff around to do the maintenance.
The good side of the camp tho, is the sauna which had a hatch to the lake, so one could do a quick dip in the frozen river and heat onesöf again in the comfort of the sauna. Similarly, due to the snow, one could easily make a quick roll in the snow for some chill and then return into the sauna for a refreshing feel.
Ice fishing was also available, you could borrow and ice drill and manually drill your own hole for the fishing line which surprisingly were free of charge to burrow.
The staff were friendly and easy going, once you actually found one. Overall, it's a great concept, although a few more cleaners...
