This review is about the snowmobile ride to Mt. Ednamvárri from the Máttaráhkká lodge.
Me and my wife had an amazing experience riding the snowmobile from the lodge. We were picked up from our hotel in Kiruna and brought there for the start of the trip. Our guide was fantastic, very patient, friendly, chill and passionate about the place and the activity. He made ourselves confortable and explained everything thoroughly.
Before riding we dressed properly at the lodge then went into a tipi and had a cozy fire, followed by a lingonberry juice, a delicious soup with moose meat, and coffee also.
The ride was amazing, unforgettable. It was my first time on a snowmobile and it was easy to learn how to drive it. We kept a moderate pace throughout the complete dark and snowy landscape. Then we stopped at the top of Mt. Ednamvárri and had more warm tea. The sky was clear and the stars were incredible. We waited for the northern lights but they didn't want to show up for us that night. To be fair, that didn't bother us at all, since the whole experience was great. Seeing the northern lights would be a plus, not the final goal. I actually saw the lights 2 days later, in another activity, but I still regard this one as the best of my 3 nights in Kiruna. In the end, we came back to the lodge and stayed chatting there until the guide brought us back to our hotel.
Thank you very much for the experience, specially the guide (I hate saying "the guide" all the time because I forgot his name, I'm sorry!)...

Read moreWe arrived for a 2 night stay, when we arrived an older woman at the entrance gave us a key and walked away. We went in to what appeared to be an abandoned hotel. Lights off, no one around, no one to assist us, no bar, no restaurant, no one to ask any questions. Drove into town for food and beverage as this place is deserted. Second day, I ask someone walking around if they work here, he says no he works for the adventure company but can help me. I ask for a cup of Ice and if he could light the sauna as they say it is included with your stay, he says they have no ice and he will start the sauna. Leave room head to sauna and it’s locked and again, no one here. Completely deserted.. see video. I have never experienced anything like this and paid $220 a night. Absolutely ridiculous. I wish I would have read a truthful review. I am not one to leave bad reviews but this experience, I wish someone had warned me and I hope I can help someone else not make the same mistake as I have.
** upon departure owner refunded me 50%, he made it right after our negative experience. I think if you book with the lodge with one of the helicopter excursions it would be...
