This is probably the most difficult review I've ever written (out of a total soon approaching 100 reviews worldwide), due to the very unusual gap between the pros and the cons of my wife's and my experience from our one-night stay from the last day of June to the first of July.||On the positive side:||- A breathtaking location next to the massive Ångermanälven river and the scenic Höga Kusten bridge (thus also most conveniently located for anyone using route E4 for touring northern Sweden by car).||- A charming old house, converted from a private school building from the early 1900s.||- Very adequate breakfast (included in the room rate) with a good assortment of cold and hot dishes.||- A very impressive selection of whiskies and other drinks at the bar.||- Expert and friendly drinks advice, especially about the 200 or so whiskies, not least the very local and very premium BOX produce, from the lady owner (Eva?).||On the less positive side:||- Our room booking, made some 4 months in advance, evidenced beyond doubt by a confirmation message on my smartphone, did not exist anymore in their system.||- A young temping lady (no shadow on her, she was very nice indeed!) was unable to sort out this problem and called the lady owner (same as mentioned above, but then on a positive note).||- The lady owner entered, blaming the mishandling of our booking on "the young girls".||- Not the smallest apology, no sign of accepting any wee personal responsibility (obviously unaware of the concept of "this is where the bucked stops"), no compensation for their error, not even a symbolic one!||- In the end offering us a standard room for the night, instead of the slightly better room we had booked.||So this landlady gave me an odd resemblance of "Dr Jekyll and Ms Hyde" - ever so sweet and entertaining at times, at other times disgustingly unprofessionally and cowardly shunning any responsibility for the hotel's fault.||So, the positive aspects would have merited the property a solid 4, the negative ones however an equally solid 0, thus for lack of better reason I end up at an average of these, namely 2.||A last point: There seem to be no responses from the hotel's management to previous reviews on TripAdvisor, so the suspicion grows that they don't care to read the reviews, thus not availing themselves to this ample source of free consultancy and advice. (I sincerely hope I'm...
Read moreSpent 2 nigths at the hotel. The building is beautiful and the service and the treatment of the staff at check in is good.||Rented the sauna on the first night, lovelly experience with the wood burning sauna unit, and the Highcoastbridge as your view out the window. Strange though that the hotel cannot offer any robes for this specific occassion (you need to exit the hotel and walk approx. 75 meters to get to the sauna, not so fun to do half naked when its around 0 degrees celsius outside). This would definitely be a point of improvement for the management.| |Also, the cleanliness of the rooms is questionable, first impression - someones hair on the pillow, and when showering - there were plenty of stains which looked a lot like someone had sprayed coca cola on the bathroom walls (below the ceiling). ||Spent one night in the restaurant, and the dinner was partially cold once received - sure, it was crowded in there due to an event but still, not good enough. ||Breakfast was okay overall, however it felt like something was always "missing". The staff was just not that active making sure to refill the most popular items on the table. ||Not sure if we think that the price we paid for our stay correlates to the rooms standard, or services offered, which of...
Read moreBjörkuddens Hotel & Restaurant has everything going for it. Unbelievable location, beautiful buildings, super nice grounds. Yet it somehow manages to miss the point. I felt no love in the building. The windows in the potentially beautiful reception area are covered by big dark sofas. There are obvious traces of former guest in the gorgeous room we stayed in (dust and pieces of food in the corners). The windows are super dirty obstructing the view of the gorgeous Höga kusten bridge. The food in the restaurant was very unimpressive. The lawns needed to be mowed and the out door areas needed to be cleaned up, painted, and cared for. BUT! The beds were super comfortable, the view (once we opened the windows and could see clearly) unbeatable, and we got a good night sleep. Also the breakfast was great! It was a confusing feeling as Björkudden clearly has a better location than Höga kusten hotellet and with just a little bit of love and care it would be fantastic. But somehow it manages to...
