Just back from a stay at Nösund Havshotell – a seaside hotel on the lovely island of Orust, located about an hour outside of Gothenburg, Sweden. Nösund Havshotell encompasse everything I think makes this coastal region so wonderfully unique and visit-worthy. The landscape here is nothing short of breathtakingly spectacular. Especially during the spring and summer months when the island is lush with flowers and trees in full bloom.||||In addition to the main building where the restaurant, bar, and stage are – the hotel attracts some the country’s finest musical acts during the summer months – there's also a half dozen or so beautiful wooden houses and cottages, rickety piers and cute bathhouses scattered along the picturesque bay. Nösund is like the retreat you don’t want to leave. The vibe is laidback, the food and service is superb and the staff makes certain you feel right at home from the get-go. And then there’s the spa…where a triplet of hot tubs, saunas and a generous deck overlooking the ocean – and where a few ladders allow you to sink into it – ensure you’ll be fully relaxed before checking out. ||||Folks, I can highly recommend a stay at Nösund Havshotell!||||About me:||||I am a freelance filmmaker and visual artist. On average, I stay at 25-30 hotels and eat at over 100 different restaurants a year. I am dependent on the reviews I read when choosing where to sleep and where to dine.||||Not always, but often enough, I find myself disappointed and forced to endure unremarkable hotels or eating at restaurants with mediocre service and food.||||My ambition for reviewing hotels and restaurants is to provide fellow travelers (and indirectly, hotel management) with my experiences and insightful critique.||||On several occasions, owners, General Managers and F & B Directors at hotels I’ve stayed at and reviewed have gotten in touch to thank me personally for my contributions, opinions,...
Read moreWe went on a weekend getaway with my husband. We arrived at our room and the view was incredible. The room was right in front of the lake and it was a beautiful experience waking up and having our coffee right in front of this spectacular view. When I talked to the manager about a mistake that was made with our room, he did everything to make sure we had a great time. He offered us two meals at the Christmas buffet that costed $140 and a good offer for the next time we visit. The whole staff was very kind and helpful and they all cared very much for us. The hotel owner was also very caring and kind and in general all made sure we had a great time. The Christmas buffet was one of the best I had ever seen. Alla the fish, seafood, shrimps were as fresh as could be. I have never tasted something like that in Stockholm, were I live. There also was a dessert buffet with homemade desserts made by the chefs and the owner. It felt like home if home was Italy and some more European cities known for their fabulous desserts. Delicious. The waiting staff was also very nice. This place earned a special place in our hearts and we will surely visit again, this time with our three daughters. My only regret is that we only stayed one night. I would surely stay for two more days. A big thank you to the manager who made sure everything would be perfect for us and unforgettable. If you are looking for a place that is cozy, with a feel like home touch and people that are too nice, with an astonishing view of nature and lake/sea, with good quality and warmth, this is your...
Read moreCame in for one night on our way back from holiday. The guy in the reception seamed a bit confused when he was about to explain to us where our room was. He wanted to show us on some sort of map but ended up pointing it out to us as it was just down by the sea, and we could see it from the reception. Why he was trying to make it more difficult that it was is something I don't understand.||The room was nice, and the location of the hotel is very good down by the seafront.||When we came for dinner we had the feeling that they really didn't expect anyone. The same guy from the reception seated us at a table and left before taking any orders. When he came back we had decided for drinks and food. After 15 minutes the food came, but still no drinks. In the meantime we had to help ourselves with some water for the kids and maybe that was confusing, I don't know. Asking him where our drinks was he said sorry and came a few minutes later with drinks to three of us. We asked about the last beer and he said sorry again before going to the next table instead of getting the beer. After several more minutes, when we were almost finished, he came again asking if everything was okay. We asked again for the beer and he said sorry one more time before going to another table. Then, when my wife was finished eating her food, he came with the beer. There was no offering to take it off the tab or any other form of compensation. I really had expected the service...
