If you like unusual style and are looking for something out of the ordinary, Bomans is the place for you. In idyllic little Trosa, not far from Stockholm, they are guaranteed to fulfil your needs.
Set in a beautiful garden with recliners, swings and other furniture in summer, red houses spread out from the original building, the newer extensions are carefully blended in. The inside of every room offer you a pleasant surprise. You can chose rock n’roll style or flowery romantic and everything in between. The rooms vary in size but all of them have super comfy beds and facilities.
Last time I stayed with my little dog in Oasen / The Oasis, a beautiful room with ancestry. You can read all about the hotel in the coffee table book that’s available in all rooms and in the lobby. This room has a bath perfectly placed and soothing caramel colours. Small hidden terrace. It was once up on a while the honey moon suit and I can see why.
The time before I had the advantage of staying in the Glimmer Twin Suit, an adventure that I lived and prospered on for long. The suit is totally rock ‘n roll, all in honour of Rolling Stones’ legendary guitarist Keith Richards. Black, red and giraffe, sculls and hat collection. Complete with vinyl player and boxes with all your old and new Stones favourites. Fire place and bath in the room, what more can you ask for? Massive posters of Keith plastering the walls so if you’re not a Stones fan, pick another room. Most likely then you will, as there is a good presentation of all rooms, including two other suits with more homely themes, to be found in the hotel’s web page. I have also stayed in two of the the smaller rooms that are just as comfy and whimsical, only smaller and no bath. Generous possibility to try on and even use for dinner; the host’s cool high heel shoes that are available in some of the rooms! One room is dedicated to Manolo Blahnik, in another you can wind on a classic Hermes scharf for dinner. ( You wouldn’t see me in one of them, rather in one of Keith’s hats! )
In all nooks and crannies of the hotel you will find art, decorations and pictures of all sorts. Never a dull moment when you stay in Bomans. Outside as well as inside.
The restaurant offers a varied menu, often with local products of the season and generally very good service. Look out for the offers including lodging, three course dinner and breakfast buffet or similar - there is also a small spa section - you will find them in their home page. Wine is not cheap but they don’t serve cheap wine, they have a wine cellar that should please the most fastidious connoisseur. They also serve a tasty today’s lunch to an average price. Coffee from machine and fizzy water in the room’s mini bar is included, check the price list before you grab another bottle.
Dogs are welcome in the hotel and small dogs are allowed in the dining room. My dog loves it and consider himself guard dog at the place by now. Not sure what’s considered “small”, I guess dogs play by the same rules as humans. No drunk and disorderly dogs and no smoking. The hotel is smoke free as everywhere in Sweden but they don’t haunt smokers, there are ash trays in the room’s outdoor places!
Easily reached by public transport if you don’t have a car. Train to Vagnhärad and frequent buses from there to Trosa, five minutes or even less walk to the hotel and its strolling friendly environment by the peaceful Trosa creek.
Over all, Bomans is a very pleasant experience. Maybe not for everyone but I’d say they offer something for almost everyone. I myself don’t like all the themes but why not trying something new and different?
The only drawback is that it’s a bit pricey but the packet deals give you value for money. Five stars...
Read moreThe only hotel in Sweden I can think of that compares to this, is Eriksberg in Blekinge. Bomans is a very exclusive but also quirky, excentric and a bit crazy. Every room is uniquely styled and fun, and also full of personal and lovely stuff, such as the owner's stiletto heels. Staff is nice and the breakfast room beautiful with outside seating as well. We had a large balcony with a gorgeous view of the water. The bed was enormous and the sheets alone are worth the five stars. If I had to pick on something, it would be that sometimes the design gets the better of comfort, such as a very stupid sink in the bathroom with a steel rod intead of an ordinary tap. Just stupid and very hard to turn on, but of course it looks cool. Also, instead of a breakfast buffé, we had to fill out a card in the breakfast room, which made everything a little slower, instead of just letting the guests get their own food. Because of this, the scrambled eggs were cold when they arrived from the kitchen. But this is just small stuff. Overall, it is a fantastic boutique hotel with a unique feel. However, it is not easy to get around. Because of the odd design, there are lots and lots of stairs to climb. You will easiliy get lost, (and short of breath) running up and...
