We stayed here during a weekend. The hostel Gällnö Vandrarhem has ONE hotel room called the Hotel Frans August. It is situated on the upper floor of the old schoolbuilding at Gällnö island in the Stockholm archipelago. The room is actually like a small apartment. It has its own entrance and a toilet downstairs. Upstairs you have a huge room with a double bed with excellent sleeping comfort. There are seats and a desk and historical artefacts in the room. There is also a small mini-bar with water and beer. There is a fabulous view over the green fields. In the hallway there is another small room with an extra bed. Everything was very clean and the colours bright and fresh. The design is very scandinavian and nice. No television, no safe and no air-conditioning in the room of course. This is an old house and you dont come here for watching TV. There is a kitchen and dining room downstairs in the building that belong to the hostel and can be used by the hotel guests as well. They have a lovely green garden where breakfast is served from a small waggon in the morning. Coffee, yoghurt with muesli and sandwich and boiled eggs. All fresh and high quality. There are showers in a separate building that are shared by the guests of the hotel and the hostel. The hotel, the hostel has the same owner as the cafe, bar/bistro and grocery store on the island. Its not far to walk to these. They serve excellent drinks and good food. The cafe is very picturesque with home-made cakes. Gallnö is probably the most charming place to visit in the archipelago. Its very swedish and very genuine at the same time tranquil. We strongly recommend anyone who wants a genuine swedish archiipelago visit to come here and do stay at the Hotel Frans August. Seldom have we met this enthusiastic staff at a tourist accommodation. The place is beautifully located, well kept and has a...

If you are looking for the true Swedish nature and scenery then this is the place. The peace and quiet is heavenly. Definitely visit here if you are in Sweden. All the staff at the hostel and cafe are really friendly and helpful. The accommodation is comfortable and relaxing. They gave me free breakfast which wasn't supposed to be apart of the booking. Thanks again for your hospitality and generosity. Have the highest respect for the local people who live on the island permanently when walking around the island. I will be definitely visiting...
Read moreThank you Wateki for making our days at Gällnö unforgettable! 🥰 The whole place is kept in flawless condition and the children enjoyed the many outdoor games and the books at the hostel, which used to be a school, anno 1905. We made long strolls in the very typical nature around the island and went to swim a few places. We have a very nostalgic relationship with the archipelago and expectations were met ☺️ We even received a kilo of freshly picked delicious forest mushrooms (Karl Johan). Thank you! We will for sure...
