We were thoroughly disappointed with our stay at the Reka Sörenberg, despite having high expectations. While the facilities were decent, the staff's attitude and behavior fell short of our standards. Unfortunately, the receptionist was not only unfriendly but also made us feel unwelcome due to our limited proficiency in German.
As residents of Switzerland with a child born here, we anticipated that the hotel staff would make an effort to communicate with us in English, especially given the international nature of tourism. However, not only did some staff members struggle to speak English, but they also showed no willingness to help us navigate the Reka events, explain how Rekalino worked, or provide basic information.
The receptionist's behavior was particularly disturbing, as they publicly shamed us for not speaking German fluently, implying that it was unacceptable for us to live in Switzerland without being proficient in the language. This kind of discrimination and lack of understanding made us feel extremely uncomfortable.
Our experience with the Rekalino kids' club was equally disappointing. When we tried to drop off our three-year-old son, the staff seemed disinterested and unengaged, failing to ask about his needs or listen to our instructions. After leaving him in their care, he became upset, and within five minutes, they called us to collect him, stating that he wouldn't stop crying. What struck us as unusual was their inability to calm him down or attempt to engage him, despite his familiarity with Swiss German from attending kindergarten.
In contrast, we've had positive experiences with kids' clubs at other family-friendly hotels, where the staff took the time to comfort and distract our son when he was upset. The lack of empathy and understanding displayed by the Reka Sörenberg staff was striking.
Overall, our stay was ruined by feelings of exclusion and discrimination, primarily due to the language barrier. If we could turn back time, we would choose not to visit the Reka Sörenberg. In an ideal world, we would expect a full refund for the horrible experience we had, considering the stress and discomfort caused by the staff's behavior. Unfortunately, that's not the case, and we're left feeling frustrated and disappointed.
We would appreciate guidance on how to file a formal complaint with Reka, as we believe that their management should be aware of the issues we faced during our stay. We hope that by sharing our experience, we can help prevent similar situations from happening to other families in the future. Given our experience, we're hesitant to consider staying at any Reka hotel in the future, unless significant changes are made to address the issues...
Read moreMy booking at the REKA was perhaps one of the worst experiences I have had in hotels. The cost is expensive, minimum stays make booking inflexible and the Management is very unfriendly and hostile. This booking was made as it was close to the house of some local friends and as such they thought that the REKA was a good option. I was sad to report to the contrary. Management was very much absent and the reception was seldom manned. The communication between central bookings and the local centres got distorted and their idea of Parkin is outside. The original inquiry was about indoor parking. The rooms are big but basic. You pay a lot of money for things that you have to make your self like the bed preparation and things like that. When you spend 507CHF you expect the beds to at least be made. The front door of the apartment/rooms are frosted glass. At night or when the light is on, there is no privacy to walk around the premise without putting on a show for the passing public in the hall. This was raised with the management at central booking and they did not seem to care very much. If you were to say want to sit in the sitting room to watch TV, you would have to close doors or hang towels over the glass as not to be seen. The same applies to the bedroom. Yes, it is frosted glass but you can still see figures and details. Absolutely no privacy. The parking was bad. I parked in the underground garage where I thought I had booked and the response was a very overzealous manager telling to get out and that I did not belong there. The whole things was a bad experience. Avoid the REKA as they appear to be stuck in time not understanding or appreciating the value...
