If you want to ski, I'd seriously avoid going here. While the mountains are beautiful and some of the runs a lot of fun, it has some major flaws. The first being the sheer volume of tourists who come here. The viewing platform at the summit draws bus-loads of tourists who flood the gondolas causing the queues to be absolutely massive. It took us 30 minutes from entering the valley station to getting on a gondola. It was incredibly frustrating. At the final gondola to the summit, we gave up because the queue was at a standstill. Secondly, the runs are not very well connected, especially if you have people in your group at different skill levels. There is a nice blue run area that is essentially impossible to access without descending all the way to the valley and taking a small train to a midway stop. From those runs you have to cross-country ski for around 1.5km to reach the main descent run at the end of the day. It is really frustrating. Finally, the runs in general are a bit dull. There are a couple of exciting ones but many are bumpy and in the shadow of the mountain all day so they're absolutely freezing until 2pm. In short, wouldn't bother for a ski day - especially at...
Read moreIf your are a beginner, stay away. This ski resort is not for you. The GerschniAlp area, with blue pistes tailored for beginners is the worst skiing experience you can have: There were small rocks on the piste Last time the pistes saw a snowcat must have been a week before. They were bumpy and lacking snow, despite the large amounts of powder just outside the limits of the piste = lack of maintenance. A bus can take you from the end of the funicular to the pistes. But you have to pay extra for it, it's not included in the ski pass! This zone is very disconnected from the rest of the slopes, a diverse group can hardly see each other during the day.
On the main set of slopes, piste 12 is marked as blue, but it's techically a red. Not suited for beginners.
Otherwise, you will have plenty of exciting red and black runs, where you can have a lot of fun once you know how to properly parallel break. But until then, just learn how to ski...
Read moreNEVER GO HERE! IF I COULD I WOULD GIVE THEM -100 STARS! SHAME ON ENTIRE SKI RESORT! We got our tickets after queuing for 40 Min. Then queuing again 45 min to get on the gondola. We could ski ca. 40 min and then we got told the resort will close because of high wind. (Ca. 28km/h). Then we tried to get our money back (as 85 CHF for 40 min of skiing is a bit too much, dont you think. After queuing for 70 min. the woman at the ticket office didn't even apologise for the inconvenience & We only got back 5 CHF per ticket (which is the card fee).. So no money back or voucher nothing. On top of this all, I was told "it was my choice to do this" and what is my problem I got to ski" the audacity of this person is another level... some of use flew in for the weekend and the skiing was supposed to be the highlight. Cheers for ruining one entire day & wasting our money.
Rude, rip off, NEVER COMING BACK!!! AND WILL TELL...
