My husband and I came and stayed here for 4 nights/5 days over our wedding weekend. This is the best hotel I have stayed at in Taiwan in terms of amenities, services, rooms, and customer service (better than The Grand Hotel in Taipei!).

THE ROOM: Our room was impeccable and had hot/cold springs bath in the bathroom, which is huge, bright and luxurious. Our room was clean, comfortable and included a balcony. Complimentary water, drinks and snacks are left every day by housekeeping AND the bed is soft and comfortable (unlike many Taiwan beds that are as hard as a rock).

AMENITIES There are plenty of public spaces available to guests, which I loved. There are 2 reading rooms, one of which has an outdoor balcony. I spent time on the balcony drinking wine and playing games with friends, and painting by the gorgeous view in the rooftop reading room. There is a gym and also of course, the beautiful infinity pool with hot springs. I liked that towels and everything you need are provided, and the amenities are open til 10, which means you can really enjoy them (some places things close at an absurdly early time, like 7 or 8, so it was really nice to be able to swim or play games in the evening after dinner).

THE RESTAURANT Complimentary breakfast is provided every morning, buffet style, and it is legitimately delicious. Western and Chinese style breakfasts and everything cooked SO well; cereal, eggs, toast, croissants, sushi, noodles, lu rou fan, sausages, I mean everything you could want. They also use a smart system where you choose the time you want to eat, so there's always enough food and the wait time for seats is never more than just a few minutes (even at 9:30 on a Sunday when we went).

We also had dinner here one night and it was delicious-- not buffet style, but very tasty and reasonable prices.

In addition, from 3-8 they have a wine bar, and you get a complimentary drink (wine or tea) for each day of your stay. I've never seen anything like this at other Taiwanese hotels and it was impressive because everyone was having a great time! Really loved this service.

STAFF/CUSTOMER SERVICE Truly impeccable. Anything we needed, the front desk assisted with. They even had someone to offer assistance in English. They brought water to our room at night when requested and helped us order taxis. They even have umbrellas you can borrow for the inevitable Yilan rain shower.

LOCATION: Within walking distance from old Su-Ao station, but still tucked away enough that it felt private. You could also walk to the main strip of tea shops and brekkie shops/7-11 within 5-6 minutes. It's a 10 minute car/cab ride to the beach!

VERDICT: We will absolutely come back here to stay. This hotel...

Having heard about the beautiful East of Taiwan, for almost a year I was there and never been. This happens to be a roadtrip with friends to the more southern east of Taiwan – Yilan, Suao. Before this, many of my friends had only mention more about Yilan, but Suao is too one of the hidden gems on Taiwan. ||||Lakeshore Suao which is one of the top rated springs hotel in the area was the hotel we choose for this stay. It took us 2hr and 20 mins for to reach this hotel from Taipei. This is my first Lakeshore experience in Taiwan and they have a few in the country. Having some expectations in mind given the daily rate they are going I was kinda surprise the hotel seems small from the outside — and the inside. I’d say, typically a smaller chain of hotels with smaller areas to roam. The hotel only offer few standard categories of room with no suite option during booking, we book the double room with Mountain View for the glimpse of mountain and Suao town. The room which located at a small corner, truly offers great Mountain View and a great view of the town at the side next to the in-room springs tub — however, be aware that the windows are very much see through if you’re the shy type. ||||There’s nothing much to mention about the room besides the great view. The room which is kinda small, literally use up most of the available space to fit in every essentials possible. The only shout out is the bathroom which I enjoy taking in the views. Suao is famous for their high ion cold springs which cause the water to look murky. Fred not, it is 100% natural unfiltered springs.. there are no smell, and it doesn’t stain your body.. however, clothes maybe yes. I’d recommend to spend more quality time at the hotel which also have a gorgeous rooftop swimming pool – however small and can be crowded. They also have libraries with great views for the zen me-time. We also enjoy the breakfast spread the next morning. ||||All in all, it’s a decent “small spring hotel”. Having paid NT9k (US$290), somehow I do expect more like better sheets. While I didn’t see any suite options, maybe it could be better with a suite as the room really does look like it’s taking all the available area and make it to rooms.. —- but this could just mean one thing = congested. I recommend coming here during the low seasons (google it), otherwise it can be really crowded. We stay here July 2022. Yilan/Suao is definitely one of the nicer places in Taiwan offering laidback...

Stayed in the Luxury King Room with Ocean View, offering a pretty decent view of the harbour / sea (and would have made for an amazing sunrise view, except it was very cloudy then), although not quite true ocean view. Our room is located at the corner, and actually offers both mountain and sea view. Room is very spacious (easily fits 4 large luggages), and has a very large open concept walk-in bathroom, with your own in-room separate cold / hot onsen tub. Even the shower stall is not within your usual cubicle, but water control / pressure is great. A pretty interesting / bold concept, although there are rollable blinds to deploy for privacy. Toilet has its own cubicle (thankfully), and has electric bidet function. Highly recommend to go for the breakfast option, the spread is very good (imagine getting shabu shabu at breakfast), and offers both local and international items (3 long tables with items on both sides), + another counter serving their burger slider of the day. We booked direct with the hotel, and besides getting a special early bird offer, hotel also gave additional supper vouchers (for tourists) for our 2 rooms of 4 adults, with free flow alcohol and DIY cocktail settings, for 2h duration starting at 2130h. Hotel staff was also responsive when we send email to check on some items. Hotel also has a cold pool (20-ish degrees water temp) on rooftop (with a small hot onsen jacuzzi at side). Somehow, pool doesn't open for sunrise viewing (only opens at 7am). One interesting thing is there is a pillow menu on the same floor (available after 8pm I think), for guests to pick and choose and bring back to their rooms. Lobby is accessible by wheelchair, with gentle slope for walking. Hotel is right next to a small river as well (great for runs or just chilling by the water). Hotel is about 7min walk to Suao train station, but there is rather limited breakfast options outside of hotel. It is also about 15mins car ride to the Nanfang Ao harbour, offering very fresh yet affordable seafood. There is also a small night market there (but Monday nights only). Highly recommend a night's stay for folks doing the east bound journey (ie to Hualien, Taitung, Taroko Gorge), and of course wants to try the world famous cold spring (one of only 2 in the world) in your own room.

I debated between 4 or 5 stars for the location of this hotel because it'd be amazing IF the weather were lovely & you wanted to be by the port, catching sunrises & sunsets -- but beyond that, the town itself doesn't have too much to do if not water sports & the cold and hot springs. I personally loved the town's charm, but my husband struggled a little with the convenience (trains only came on very strict schedules and it's nowhere as convenient as Taipei -- so if you prefer that vibe, I'd say Su'ao may not be an ideal fit for you if the weather isn't sunny!) & the fact that it is harder to get around without a base of Chinese. I loved our hotel room, but my husband was frustrated that the AC wasn't as cold as he would've liked (and this is strongly bc of the hot / cold springs area in a room -- it needs ventilation, but it's also a warm area so that clashes with the AC temp). The one thing I would caution is that sound insulation is not good in this hotel -- I can't be sure why, but this was something we noticed immediately. I'd also say the staff here were slightly less welcoming than what we were used to in Taipei (though helpful nonetheless), but I wasn't sure if that might be due to perhaps being a little more shy around English speakers / being a little worn from what felt like big tour groups each day. Regardless, they were kind & helped each time we called! Despite some of that criticism above, I will say that if you're looking to stay in Su'ao, this is your best hotel. There was one hotel right on the ocean, but it honestly looks rundown from the outside & its reviews really don't seem great, so this is truly the best in the area in my husband & I's opinion!
