Ohana means family, and during the time I spent in Ohana hostel, I really felt part of it! The hosts (Sinma and Sinpa) are really kind and helpful and they treat every traveller as a friend. A few weeks after I started travelling, the Covid-19 situation started getting worse around the world and I couldn’t go back to my country. Because of that I was feeling worried and sad, but when I arrived to Ohana I felt so much better and happier! We had meals together, shared stories and experiences, visited beautiful places, everything was amazing ❤️
Ohana hostel is well located, very close to Taitung train station so it’s really convenient. All the areas are extremely clean, the space is brand new and the design is so original. It’s definitely the best and warmest hostel that I ever stayed in! I totally recommend it!
Read moreEverything about this place is amazing! Just like the other reviews say, this place is special. Location is close to the train and bus station (but not the city - indeed, no hostels are. The government changed this apparently). Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are large, refrigerator is stocked with drinks (+ instant noodles) with an honesty system. Towel rental is free, hair dryers in the dorms.
But the gem of this hostel is the family that owns it. They're so sweet, and speak good English. From helping plan your days in Taitung, to encouraging group conversations in the common room, ordering food for you - they make this place amazing. I would've stayed in Taitung longer just to stay here if I didn't have my trip planned. My girlfriend wasn't feeling well one day and they checked on her regularly throughout the day. She felt very loved!
Wonderful hostel. They have had a journey too: they used to be in Taitung centre, then had to move and build their hostel from scratch. Many of the facilities are actually built by the dad! They have a photobook documenting their...
Read moreA real, international-style backpacker's hostel with a lot of character and a cutely-hyperfocused vision of enhancing travelers' learning and social experience. A refreshing change of pace from the bland minsu and strictly-business accommodations that budget travelers get used to in Taiwan. The couple that owns it is very warm and genuine, and pretty smart about traveler life despite having learned about it mostly vicariously.
The dorm beds are without curtains on purpose, to enhance the sense of community (though if you're near the bathroom it's easy for the light to shine in your eyes at night). Tons of plugs for your devices at every bed. 👍
The hostel is close to the train station and a bit far from downtown, but...welcome to the East Coast. It's tricky to get around here without a scooter or car no matter where...
