I was told to say here by a few people when I come to Panjakent so I was expecting a really nice place. I was pretty disappointed. I may have just come on the wrong day or something, but I entered at 6 pm, and there were no lights on and no one to be found. I was about to leave to just find somewhere else, but I did go upstairs and found an old lady who didn't speak much English who checked me in. Room was fine and the rest of the night was normal, but I was expecting much more. I needed some help with travel planning and from all the reviews who said the owners spoke great English and can help you with your travels, I came out a little bit disappointed. I'm sure it's a nice place most of the time.

Lovely place. It’s not the ritz but it’s got a very homely feeling for a hostel. The owner’s mother is the one that’s present most of the time. She’ll be on the 2nd floor of the hostel if u can’t find anyone when u arrive. She’s very friendly but doesn’t speak any English. Just Russian and Farsi. That being said she made it very easy for us to check in. The price is fair and the people that were there while we stayed were fantastic. The old lady will give you the WhatsApp number for the owner so you could get any information from him. The location is not on the Main Street, some back street but very safe. We had an awesome time there and were genuinely a little sad when we checked out.

Poor hostel... Very small dorm with 6 beds nearly no space for belongings. In the too little lockers fits not my bag, handlugage-size. * The road to the hostel is terrible and very bumpy. It's almost impossible with a roller bag. * Far from the main road. * And at the end, expensive: 100 somoni. (in Dushanbe much better hostel for only 75)

After 1 month travelling in all Tajikistan this was the place where I'm feeled like home. I had been here in 3 diferent occasions just for one or two days straight, but the kindess and hospitality it was always there. Zafar and Parinos - The owner and his daughter - speaks english perfeclty and they really know how to take care of his guests. Also the Zafar's wife and his mother although they just speak Russian and Tajik, they were always very friendly and kind. The Zafar's wife makes the best soup in all Tajikistan! And when I was there the last time it was my birthday, and they even bring to me a piece of cake with a candle while singing to me "happy birthday"

When we think of our trip to Tajikistan, the Salom hostel and its great owner Zafar are always among the things that come first to our mind!:-) The stay felt more like a visit to friends' house. We had an amazing time talking to Zafar and his family about the life in Tajikistan as well as having discussions with the other hostel guests. We spent hours chatting and relaxing in the garden, which is exactly what you need after a multiple-day hike in the Fann Mountains. The beds were comfy, everything was very clean and there was also a well equipped kitchen. The breakfast was simply delicious, what a feast! My husband and I travel longterm and this was definitely one of our best hostel experiences so far....
