We stayed at Ang'ata Camp on the 1st July for one night to facilitate an early morning visit to Ngorongoro Crater for which it is ideally located. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who guided us through the small resident herd of buffalo to our accomodation .The tents are absolutely beautiful, spacious and are actually much better than they appear in the promotional material . All good to this point and we were looking forward to a hot shower and a good meal after a long hard day travelling across the Serengeti. The showers are pretty good in terms of layout but the disappointment is when you are waiting for the water - filled by a guy on a ladder at the back of the tent from a bucket for each person and you have to be real quick - as this guy has to go from tent to tent ! By way of comparison we had stayed at tented accomodation in both Northern and Central Serengeti - 2 nights at each location which were more remote and had unlimited hot water for showers at any time of day. More was to follow after our "sprinklings" - we arrived up to the main restaurant for our meal which was table service -the restaurant was full and very cold with both guides and their clients complaining despite the presence of several room heaters which were not lit. Worse was to follow - the food whilst very good and tasty was best described as small children's portions and there was a general discontent with everybody in the restaurant - some people did complain and receive a second serving of the main course although most were too polite to . When you are on Safari and out all day you expect a substantial meal that evening - again by comparison all other accomodations both lodge and tented provided a buffet type evening meal with plenty of choice and enough to eat - Ang"ata menu on the night was fish or vegetarian - not much of a choice. The general level of discontent became apparent the next morning whilst talking to other guests and their guides who incidentally were not provided with water to shower . In summary, I believe that the location of the camp to Ngorongoro may contribute to the level of services in that the management dont have to meet the same standards of excellence provided by Camps in more remote locations - that is constant hot water for showers and a proper substantial meal with choice at the end of the day. Given the cost ,I would advise people to confirm in advance with Ang'ata or their Safari provider as to their expectations so as not to be dissappointed or else look for an alternative . To the management , you have a strategic location , well appointed spacious tents - please address your plumbing and menu...
Read moreI want to give it a 3.5 but there is no option for that. We arrived later in the evening right before sunset. The main lodge like all the other sleeping areas is a tent. They give you a briefing and then take you to your room. There are animals roaming around as evidence by the Cape Buffalo we saw on the road to the camp and their droppings all around the camp. So please stay on the path when you walk lol. They give you a radio in the room if you need anything, especially an escort at night. |We ate dinner and breakfast at the main camp. The food was very good. The service was also good. The main lodge is used as a communal gathering point and during happy hour it was great to meet people. In fact, we saw some of the same people days later at a park and it was fun to talk to them about our experiences. |The sleeping tent is where they lose points for us. I can live with the fact before you take a shower they have to pour hot water into a bin as this is an off the grid experience. After giving them notice, it will take them five minutes or so to load the hot water. However, the showerhead was terrible and only drizzled water out at a lukewarm temperature. it was very cold when we arrived and even colder when we took a shower . The experience was awful and in hindsight we would advise to skip the shower. If you go in the winter, like we did, It is absolutely freezing in the room. They do provide the hot water bottle, which is nice and the only way you can feel comfortable at night. The good news is It does last most of the night. |I really wanted to enjoy this experience. I have been camping overnight in temperatures much colder than this. But I would advise coming in the warmer months if the cold bothers you or if you want to feel more...
Read more“After reading other comments on stolen monies, I felt the same vibe from employees like the seemed not to care for their customers. Imagining left out without cash in the middle of wilderness I revised my comment in quotation marks ; rest is same: Location is on the way from Nrongoro to Serengeti, 20 min from crater. Good location for quick morning Safari to crater. premise is basic and located on a elevation thus might be colder and wet. unfortunately tents do not have any portable heater. tents are big and you can stand up and furnished with regular bed and mattress. rooms are basic (i have seen better tent rooms with much better decoration and cheaper than this one). Hot water is available on demand and limited for shower. Beds and clothes can be wet due to the humidity because of elevation. Service is mediocre, they usually do what ever suits them rather than keeping customers happy. Food was again no choice and very small in portion and the first time in Tanzania i went to bed half full. Eating area was cold and not comfortable as well, management was saving on big heaters but turn on small heaters to keep the place warm. (again they do whatever suits them). Depending on their advertised price i think this is far beyond expectable. We booked thru a Safari Tour company and the prices listed internet is just for to create a hype and keep customer perception is that this place is very expensive and in the middle of nowhere so just accept whatever provided!Long story short ask your Safari Company for alternatives if they come up with this ten accomodation. Better not to stay...
