We found a real gem just 30 minutes from Kilimanjaro Airport. The owner, Nelson, warmly greeted us and shuttled us to his family's quaint homestay.
Nestled just off the main road between Moshi and Arusha, it feels a world away. The property is a peaceful getaway with beautiful large trees and lush gardens. We stayed in the Makuti hut for two nights and loved every moment. Their on-site chefs cooked us a generous, homely breakfast each morning (and the multi-course dinners are also delicious and very reasonably priced!). We spent our time sipping ginger tea and simply enjoying the serene surroundings.
One afternoon, we ventured into the nearby town to change money and were met with such warmth from the locals. We wandered through the market, brimming with vegetables and clothing, and then did as the locals do: we sat at a small kibanda (a local food hut) with a cup of warm tea, just soaking it all in.
I can't recommend this homestay enough. It's not just the understated comfort and convenience to the airport, but the incredibly welcoming and helpful owners. Staying there truly felt like staying with family.
Thank you Nelson and family for your warmth, your help (when we needed it!) and your kindness. We really hope to be...
Read moreWhat an awesome stay we had at this eco home in Maji ya Chai, Arusha! It was the perfect spot for our group of 8 filmmakers and book writers on a research trip to Mererani. The place was not only budget-friendly but also conveniently close to our destination.
The owner and team were incredibly welcoming, treating us like old friends from the get-go. Their hospitality made us feel right at home, and the food they served was a delightful mix of international dishes with a local twist. They even let us customize our meals as a group, which was a nice touch.
One small downside was the bathrooms lacking doors inside the rooms, but we rolled with it. Also, they have a modern 3-bedroom house nearby if you prefer more space and privacy.
Overall, if you're in the area and need a cozy and affordable place to stay, this eco home is worth...
Read moreA little far from the Arusha city centre but a hidden gem indeed. If you are in for a break from the city hustle, get your backpack and come down to this place that offers you peace. Run by a very young couple (who even resides in there), this place offers you the perfect stay in a budget. The hosts (Mr Nelson and his family) are very warming and they help you to plan your trip very nicely. He runs a tour company as well that is icing on the cake as it helps you to get to know the beauty of Arusha and Kilimanjaro. Not far from the Kilimanjaro airport, I had a stop here during my last Tanzania trip. I really enjoyed it and plan to...
