Lake Natron Tented Camp Staff is the best asset of the facilities. Located near (a few KM from) Lake Natron, Lake Natron Tented Camp provides a base to explore the Lake Natron ecosystem and communities near the lake. The camp provides clean and basic facilities. The restaurant was able to accommodate food allergies and vegetarians from our large family group and the place is very safe. The rooms are ample, but should get an upgrade soon, considering the cost and what is available in other tented camps in Tanzania. The outdoor shower was fun with the kids yet is not available in all units. Considering the inexpensive technology available today, such as solar panels, adding charging stations in the individual tents, adding a fan in the rooms and in the common areas (it can get hot), and providing additional internet hours could enhance the visitors’ experience. The breakfast is African Standard (eggs, sausage, beans, pancakes, fruits), and they do provide good coffee and tea during the mornings and during the 4 pm Coffee/Tea Hour. ||||The best part of our stay in Lake Natron Tented Camp was the guided services provided by Lanjoo Masiaya (+255783195987 or +255 (0)687 807 385). His approach to sharing information about the Lake and the communities, interacting with the kids and adults, and overall care of the participants of his guided excursion was great. Don’t miss visiting the Waterfall near Ngare Sero village, is a unique experience (better than viewing flamingos in the lake). Also, the hominid footstep was another highlight...
Read moreWe were here on a private tour that we'd paid one price for, so I don't know how much we paid for our stay here. Whatever it was, I would have paid twice over to stay somewhere more pleasent. ||First, despite the fact that most camps have moved to Solar, this Camp has not. That means no electric except from 6-10 am and from 6-10 pm. I loved being awakened by the sounds of birds during our Tanzanian safari, but definitely not being awakened by the sound of a generator. This was the only camp where this occured.||The food, too, was the worst we encountered during our journey. Some sort of very runny soup, a meat, a startch and fresh fruit was offered for lunch and dinner. By day two, I was requesting simply fresh fruit for my lunch and dinner meals and was grateful for it, although the portions (for a main) were tiny.||Our stay there was so poor that we pulled our guide aside to ask about the other sites that had been planned for us. The thought of two weeks of this level of accommodations was almost unbearable. He reported that we would be traveling to some wonderful sites from here and that we didn't need to worry. This would be the worst. That said, I would urge any travel planners/agents to remove this stop from any itineraries (as we're urging our travel planner to do). Lake Natron Tented Camp has a committed staff, but little more. Stear clear...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed with our two boys (aged 7 and 9), and my father, while we were on safari in December 2016. It was a lovely place, with a simple, rustic feel. We were greeted very warmly and the warmth and hospitality continued throughout our 2-night stay. The tented lodges and bathrooms were simple and clean. The outdoor showers were a neat feature, that our kids especially loved. Although small and a little too warm to be refreshing, the pool was a nice treat for our 2 boys, and it was a nice bonus that there were no chemicals in the water as it was piped in straight from the mountains. The food was ok, very simple, but good. A mix of traditional African and Western. One evening the Maasai did a presentation on how to make fire the traditional way, which was very interesting and a hit with our kids. They even got to try how to do it. :) Above all, we were really pleased with the service, we were always greeted with smiles, "jambo" and offered refreshments, and it was touching to see how genuinely interested the staff were in interacting with our children. We would like to make special mention of Paolo and Dowdee; Paolo took us to see Lake Natron and escorted us to the waterfall, what an adventure! He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. And Dowdee took really good care of us at the Lodge. Our kids still talk...
