Firstly, the rooms are a combination of stone walls and mostly tents. the tents are okay, but around the "insect net windows" some of the seams were torn which meant that the covers didn't close properly any more and water entered during rain. Water also entered around the door, as overall there were many gaps and holes around the doors and the fittings. Most of the holes were big enough to even let lizards(15 cm) and spiders (7-8 cm) into the room. When we first entered we were welcomed by 3 of them in the bathroom (one of them was dead in the bathtub which ruined taking a bath in there for all of us). We had to spray insecticide in the entire room which was definitely not healthy for us. The climate is extremely cold and there was nothing to keep us warm except for the blankets. The humidity in the room was so high that we couldn't even charge our phones as they gave a warning that it was too moist for them to charge safely. The moisture made the blankets wet and heavy leading to a bad sleep. This was further supported by wild animals making a LOT of noise during the night making it impossible to sleep well and to our dismay you couldn't see any of them during the day. The buffet was just a bad joke. A fantastic 5 options (including bread) were presented to us at breakfast, dinner was a little better as there was a 6 option including soup. After the second night 4 out of the 6 of us had bellyache and 3 diarrhea. The staff didn't care about us and the lunchboxes we got contained only about half of the things we had ordered out of the again very limited choice. The rooms are actually very tastefully designed and the view was beautiful but it was ruined by the holes that allowed the rain and all kinds of insects and reptiles to enter. There were also issues with cleanliness as the floors were only swiped and not washed, which became obvious when we compared with the areas where we had wiped up the water puddles on the floor. Overall, there were insects EVREYWHERE, also in the dining area which is open. There where swarms of them flying around us and we had to be careful not to accidentally swallowing them with the food. We decided to eat without direct light above our table. In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, do not visit...

A Perfect Safari Stay

Warm Welcome & Atmosphere From the moment we arrived at our stay, we were welcomed with a joyful welcome song that immediately set the tone for our stay. The hospitality was truly heartwarming and made us feel instantly at home. The location was absolutely stunning—peaceful, surrounded by nature, and beautifully maintained.

Cleanliness & Comfort The entire property was impeccably clean and well-kept, from the common areas to our private room. The room was spotless, with all amenities provided for a luxurious and comfortable stay. Every small detail was thoughtfully arranged, and the team ensured nothing was missing.

Dining & Dietary Consideration The food was a standout highlight. It was not only fresh and delicious, but the chef—was incredibly cautious and attentive to what he was preparing. He was mindful of everyone’s dietary restrictions, ensuring that each guest’s needs were fully respected and accommodated. This level of care and professionalism was deeply appreciated and made every meal enjoyable.

Nature’s TV & Bonfire Evenings In the evening, guests were treated to what they called "Nature’s TV"—a cozy bonfire under the stars that created the perfect setting for relaxation and connection. It was magical and peaceful, with the fire crackling, cool breeze, and sounds of nature all around.

Celebrations & Personal Touches The team went above and beyond in celebrating special occasions. We witnessed beautiful celebrations for a guest’s birthday and anniversary, complete with songs, a thoughtful gift, and a warm atmosphere. It was evident that the staff genuinely cared about making guests feel celebrated and cherished.

Final Thoughts Everything was perfect, perfect, perfect—from the setting and service to the food and festivities. The combination of natural beauty, thoughtful details, and sincere hospitality made this one of the most memorable experiences of our safari trip. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a magical and mindful...

Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp may look beautiful at first glance, but my stay was very uncomfortable. The tent platforms were so uneven/unlevel that I tripped multiple times literally just standing, and at night I actuallt slid down in bed because of the slope. Combine that with a rock-hard mattress, and it was one of the worst nights of sleep I had during my entire trip.|While there were positives — strong WiFi, plenty of USB ports, and hot showers with excellent water pressure ready to use when you arrived — the negatives outweighed them. As a solo female traveler, I also received a few comments and looks that made me feel uneasy. I didn’t have that experience at other lodging.|The worst part was how they handled a simple water charge. When I asked for “water” at dinner, I was never told it would cost extra (and no other lodge on my trip charged for water). They had multiple chances to tell me — at dinner, at checkout, or during the two hours I sat in their lobby waiting for my driver — but instead, they waited until I was walking entrance path to literally chase and yell me down. It felt unprofessional and left a bad final impression.|Overall, I would not return and would not recommend staying here. Between unsafe platforms, uncomfortable beds, and poor guest communication, this property fell far short of expectations. I am shocked by the positive...

Definitely our favourite lodge of our safari! The environment amongst the trees was amazing, and all of the staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly - they even did a welcome dance for us at dinner! The food was excellent - we asked the chef to write us the recipe for his green banana soup, which we will take home :) note that it can get very cold at night - but coming from the UK it was actually a nice change from the harsh heat of the serengeti and manyara, and they out hot water bottles in your bed, which is such a lovely touch - my wife was very appreciative of this. I would absolutely recommend people stay here during their safari, even if just for a night!

Within Ngorongoro National Park, you'll discover lush natural vegetation and the stunning Ngorongoro Crater Valley. One highlight is the renowned Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp, nestled amidst this beautiful landscape, which offers a serene climate and a peaceful atmosphere. The camp features knowledgeable staff dedicated to providing exceptional service, ensuring a comfortable stay. Guests can enjoy well-appointed tents equipped with all necessary amenities. Although the area can be chilly, hot water is readily available for bathing, and cozy hot water bottles are provided in the beds to keep you warm throughout the night.

We stayed at Tortilis Ngorongoro Camp for one night before heading into the crater for safari, and it was wonderful. The camp is so peaceful, surrounded by trees and filled with the sounds of nature. The tented accommodations are beautiful and have everything you need — nice showers, a great bed, and an amazing porch for relaxing. The hot water bottles before bed were such a thoughtful touch for the chilly nights. The staff were fantastic, and the restaurant and bar were excellent too. We really wish we could have stayed longer and can’t wait to come back!
