Read moreI recently stayed at the Craters Edge property in Ngorongoro Crater. The property itself was fabulous, service impeccable, and the staff fantastic (including the masseuse).||Unfortunately, the Land Cruiser game vehicle that transferred us from Manyara (we had been staying at &Beyond Lake Manyara) and drove us for our day down in the Crater was lacking. Our guide was good, but it was very disappointing to ride in a vehicle that had no working air conditioning, dirty / scratched windows, and I believe a large crack across the front windshield. We drove from Lake Manyara to Craters Edge with windows down, the wind howling in our face, and dust going everywhere in the car. I realize there are tougher situations to deal with in this world, but this was not what we expected from Wilderness Collection especially compared with the top condition &Beyond game vehicles. I also realize there would be dust while we're on a game drive, but to go through this during the transfer was disappointing.||During the game drive, the condition of the car definitely did not add to the experience. I don't understand how such a new brand can have such terrible game vehicles. Doesn't Craters Edge realize the game drives / vehicles are the primary attraction for visitors? This is a huge miss for them and their brand.||We plan to visit Africa again, but won't come back to another Wilderness Collection property nor refer our friends there. We had such a differential experience with &Beyond and would recommend going with them instead. I hope someone at the Wilderness collection is able to make improvements for future guests. The brand has promise, but this experience fell...
Read moreAmongst lodges in/around Ngorongoro this one stands out. The main lodge feels just as much of a tree house as it does a luxury lodge. Trees penetrate the canvas rooftops while the lodge itself is firmly on the ground. ||The individual cabins/tented suites are well appointed and very comfortable. Note that the odd numbered units seem to be closer to the edge of the crater, while even numbered ones are set slightly back. ||We had an elephant that wandered into and around a few cabins which made for an exhilarating experience, but none of the staff were particularly concerned - other than for guests to get too ambitious with their photographs.||Despite our wonderful experience our group seemed to collectively believe the staff lacked the attentiveness and/or enthusiasm for service that we had found at other luxury lodges on our journey. Slow service in the dining room, which included things like forgetting to turn on the heat before breakfast service, a meal that arrived 25 minutes late when we had schedule an early safari drive, and escorts from our room in the AM that never showed up caused some frustration from what would otherwise have been a...
