We stopped at Domiya on a motorcycle tour from Malawi to Nairobi. What an incredible place. The couple who run it are Italian and German - but both now naturalised Africans! The rooms and food are simple, very well maintained, and very clean. There are some more fancy rooms in the same building as the French Embassy to Tanzania. The wine produced by the estate team is outstanding. However, what was remarkable was the amazing attention we received, especially from Katrin, when one of our group took ill. She is a trained medic and totally tapped into the East African medical community. She mobilised surgeons with the highest levels of training to review our unwell group member. This included on-site visits, immediate rapid malaria testing, and a high degree of personal TLC ... all on top of a busy job as a public health expert and running an wine estate plus hotel! In the end, all was well and we were able to continue our adventure. We will be forever grateful and want to share what a wonderful place and team you will...
Read moreWe negoiated a reduced price for the executive room $125 to 150,000tsh. I honestly still felt that 150,000tsh was way overpriced. The only difference between the standard of rooms was the view. One room looked onto a road the more expensive (executive room) was a hill and a barbed wirred fence. For a room this price I at least expected a TV with dstv and full board. There was no TV and it only included breakfast which again was very underwhelming (egg and warm bread). We asked for them for a refill on our coffees which apparently was not included and came with an additional charge. I was not surprised.
There was a very nice pool table in the restaurant which was for private use only (not customers). When we came to dinner three men were playing pool whilst we were eating very loudly. This was very strange and off putting so I ended up eating in my room.
I personally would not recommend this overpriced excuse for a bed and breakfast. It's just a winery trying to make some...
Read moreWe arrived after 15:00 hours and the only staff available to help were the house keeping staff. They were not aware of our booking. We had booked a twin and a double executive room at 125 USD per room per night including breakfast.. When they showed us the rooms they only had two double rooms, one of which was not suitable as needed a twin. They then moved us to a challet for self catering, which had a double and a single, meaning one of us had to sleep on the floor. Trying to be positive we brought one of our camp beds in our of our vehicle and said we would self cater.
Off we went to the local shop to purchase food. When we got back they wanted to charge us for the two executive rooms still not the price of self catering which they had changed us to.
The manager was very unhelpful.
Due to this we stayed just the one night. It basically cost us 200USD for room only. A bit...
